Brian,
I know how time-consuming it can be taking on any post of responsibility. Especially if it is essentially unpaid! Sometimes it can be a drag. I think that you have quite probably reached this point. I see absolutely no reason why you should not see a financial benefit from this site. If you set a reasonable annual fee, I’m sure all genuine members will be pleased to support you. Additionally I think a one-off joining fee for new members is perfectly acceptable. I would hate to lose access to this wonderful E24 asset and all the people I have met here over the years!

Paul.

No problem with an annual fee such as $25-50 for current and new members.
Not sure if it's easy tech-wise, but perhaps have it free for new lurkers who sign up (to keep the encouragement) for say 30 days, but then the annual fee payment enables continued lurking, PM's, postings, and ads in the for sale etc?

Either way- happy to make an annual payment.

Cheers!

Hey guys,

I want to thank you all for the feedback. I’ve been reading and contemplating things as ideas come up.

Over the years, I know I have personally paid for advice of others. I wish I could remember the website, but I had a HVAC issue at my old house. I was pretty sure I needed to fix X but wasn’t 100T% sure. For a fee, I was able to post a question to an HVAC expert and get personal advice. I want to say I paid about $40 but I was impressed and satisfied as that $40 and my labor saved me $100s from calling in an HVAC expert. I feel for many, Big coupe is the same way. You have dozens of experts here willing and loving to give anybody a hand. Now, this is only a small fraction of what goes on here. There’s the life long friendships that get established, banter and general sharing of ideas. A place to "hang out" and be with like minded 6er guys. You get the gist. With this said, I am leaning towards a yearly maintenance fee. Read access will always be available for free, however.

Recently, the donations coming in have been incredible and I want to thank those who have been giving. It makes a difference and running the site feels likes less a chore. Over the next few weeks, I will be moving the site to a cloud-based platform as well as install some much-needed patches. My goal is for this this work is invisible to you and doesn’t affect the site in a negative way.

Thank you for using the site!

Brian

I need to add that knowing that there has been a shift for you is important Brian. Everything I have seen says you started this site out to create an environment for like minded enthusiasts to share their knowledge, passion and experience as a community in support of a car we all "love". That was super cool. If you need an alternate motivation to keep you engaged not that it's not shiny and new, then I have no problem kicking down some beer funds to keep this place running strong.

It's cliche yes, but it's absolutely true that most every one of us buys that extra burger, drink, clothing item, or car part we don't need, just because we can. How about we think of this site as one of those extra beers, or burgers, or knick-knacks and feed that need just like our coffee habit? I just setup a monthly donation, which is something I should have done years ago. I strongly encourage all of us regular site visitors to setup some kind of monthly donation so Brian can at least go get a friggin steak and beer on us once a month.

I agree with Jose, this was long overdue on my part.
Another monthly donation added.
Thanks for all that you do Brian!

I do not post often, and did not donate to the cause even less often, but this resource is has been an extremely valuable addition to my knowledge base.

A large Starbucks a month is well worth it to help keep this available to us old, current, and new enthusiasts.

By comparison, I belong to a model railroad site sponsored by Maerklin (A German manufacturer) who charges $99/year for which you get a simple model freightcar and 4 magazine issues per year.

But BC is far more important as it keeps our aging machines running and the forum builds a sense of community. So I see no problem for me personally to see an annual fee in the $50-$100 range.

BigCoupe has an active marketplace. May I suggest donating a commission to the site with every successful transaction?

hello Brian.

I've been away and just learned about your internal struggle whether to keep this site running. Just donated 25 bucks.

I celebrated 20 years with my E24 the day before yesterday. I hope I am able to drive it for another 20 years - and same goes for this site.
