Of ebikes, and tinkerers

Post by Da_Hose »

Hey people! I figured it was time I shared a new hobby I jumped into. I built my own e-bike!

Here is the long story.

The short story is that I converted my old Cannondale Super-V into an electric bicycle.

That very large battery is for around town riding. I am building a much smaller pack for when I'm just going trail riding. Trail riding can use much lower power, because I just want it to give me an assist, whereas the big one gives me much more range, and speed.

Nice mod!
ebikes put batteries in the down tubes to keep the center of gravity as low as possible. How's the stability of your project?

Has anyone out there created a true ee24 i.e., electric e24?

Stability with that battery is fine. Definitely heavy if you tip it over, but still very nimble and stable at speed, and I am running wide bars. When selecting the suspension upgrades, I was careful to maintain the 64 degree head angle it was built for. Also, I weigh 250 lb, so the higher battery location is not a problem, and the motor unit puts a lot of weight down at the bottom bracket. Overall I would say it has more of a small dirt bike type balance/feel.

I haven't seen an electric 6er, but I have seen an electric 2002 that is a beast! Torque on EV motors is upwards of 250 ft/lb, and the curve is pretty much flat.

Now that's cool Jose =D>

Very innovative, you must be an engineer

Regarding the question if anyone has electrified a 6er, I thought there was a guy on the board that was attempting this :-?

Perhaps a search would reveal that project, although I don't recall seeing any recent posts regarding this subject :-k

Here's the thread on electrifying the 6er:

I bought some parts from him that weren't needed on the electric version.
