Hello All!
Hopefully im posting this in the right place. I have a 1983 BMW 633 CSI. Im about to replace my selector rod shaft seal as it is leaking. While im down there I figure I might as well install a Z3 1.9 Short shifter that ive already bought and all the bushing and washers as well.
HOWEVER, if though there is a ton of information on the net through BigCoup, REALOEM, and BMWFANS, I cant seem to get a straight answer on exactly what parts to change out to reduce sloppy shifting and get everything nice and crisp.
Ive watched "Slownrusty" youtube video a couple times, and using that and the info from REALOEM, ive been able to figure out couple of parts that I need.
For example
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=25_0071
I know I need
Number 6
Number 11
Number 14
However, where do I get the bushing for number 8? - Do I need to just buy the entire shifter arm?
Number 2 bushing - That doesn't even look like it exists anymore! I cant find it anywhere and the two Part numbers pull up on different model BMWs!
So I used this link here and ive clicked all links in there as well..
http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=23048
In that link there is a diagram that has numbers 2,3,6,11,13,14,15,16,17,18 and 19 highlighted in yellow, is this complete? Is that all I need to rebuild my shifter?
Sorry if im ranting, im not exactly the most mechanically inclined person, but id like to try this myself. Or even if I do take it to a shop, id like to be able to tell them exactly what I want replaced.
Lastly, UUC sells a double -shear selector rod - I understand the benefit, but just based on other people experience, is it worth the money spent? or should I just use the original selector rod?
Thanks for all the help, much appreciated!

Re: E24 Shifter Rebuild Questions
so after some more research,
looks like this is the diagram I should be using because my e24 is a 1983 built in 9/1982. still unsure what parts to source..

Re: E24 Shifter Rebuild Questions

or will replacing everything from the second diagram (below) be enough?

Re: E24 Shifter Rebuild Questions
Make sure you are looking at the right drawings. The date says "from 09/1985" but you have found that yourself as well I see.
You best enter your VIN in the BMW parts website (currently offline for maintenance).

Why not take it out, see what is worn and replace only the worn parts? The complete kit will cost you a lot.
The list with yellow and orange colours is complete, but not for your car.

Re: E24 Shifter Rebuild Questions
I had both short shift and DSSR installed. All I can say is friggin' great.
Yeah it's expensive, but it's the cats meow.
To me part of the fun is very crisp shifts, even in a modestly horse powered car.
The DSSR part # is the mm size. Make sure you measure the pin distance
I remember it was listed wrong and had to order a different size. I don't
remember what it was. If you're thinking of keeping the car for a long time
do it, you won't be sorry.

Haha, that’s probably the best route to go, I’m just a bit impatient and wanted to source all the parts, drop everything and get going! I’ll try the link!
