This is just beautiful. The next time anyone says anything about Hennarot not being the most amazing BMW color ever I'm referring them to this.

Good looking car, BUT, why is the dolly track humped? Why not level?
The 'Dolly Grip' has his right foot on the dolly. Is the track a ten foot piece or a 12 ft. in length? Looks like a Bob Stindt Dolly?
To Local 80, HLLYW'D Grip local, ten footers are normal, then 8' then 6' then 4' then 2 footers.
I was Dolly Grip on the first year of the tv series "In the Heat of The Night" shot in Hammond, Louisiana.
That picture takes me back a ways. You know what they say,'find a job you like & you haven't worked a day in your life'. I enjoyed my job.
It was always different, even day to day. =D>
Sorry for the ramblin'.

Yes this is orsome.
Everything looks just right on the car.

Greg I never known what dolly grip and best boy etc is.

Hopefully its better than the jam boy. Those poor unfortunate souls have to cover their faces in jam for the purpose if attracting flies so the person playing golf that hired them don't get flies going on them

WHAATT!!?
My gosh! My Grip mind clicks in right away : they could cover a rag with jam & carry it on a stick!!!
That's more than ridiculous! It's de-grading! What are they thinking??
That must be a joke,, or folk lore?
I'm a little shaken. I'll get back to you about the name 'Best Boy'.
But, thanx for the info.

Okay, I'm back. Here's the sequence:
The Producers (sometimes four or five) find investors looking to invest & make money on the back end, & hire the Production Manager, who hires the Cameraman/Directory of Photography, the 'DP' hires the Key Grip and the Gaffer(head electrician), in turn they hire there own Best Boys, second in command, whose job is to replenish the equipment used & keep records of hours worked, I'm guessing the best friends in the beginning, one Grip & one Electrician. They get together within their departments & hire the Grip crew & Electrical crew. They're separate, but, all three work very, very closely together.
The Production Manager also hires other Dept. heads like Make-up, Wardrobe, Props, on & on.
There are variations, but, this is the way Hollywood union people generally do it.
There is the non-union leg of people, but these are generally newcomers looking to create a reputation & connections to move into union jobs.
You'd be surprised to know the names I worked with as a Grip on the set!
Jam on the face! WOW!!
Greg
Ps,,,I can tell you the mostly confirmed rumor about how the words Grip & Gaffer came to be if you're interested.

I think I know where the term gaffer came from (using a gaff (pole) to move lights suspended from above), but I'm not sure about where "grip" came from. I always look at the credits to see if they list a "focus puller". Talk about a thankless job.....

Good one, Ken. You're exactly right about the Gaffer.
The Grip, in the beginning of movies was a carpenter that was needed for last minute changes on the set.
When the train was popular, before planes, the suitcase was called a grip.
This is confirmed by, I think Clark Gable, saying to a Porter to put his grip over there; meaning his suitcase.
I saw that movie way after I became a Grip, so, it stood out to me after hearing the rumors.
Anyway, the carpenter needed a place for his tools, like saw, crowbar, all the screwdrivers, pliers & side cutters, hammer, levels, tape measures on & on.
You can guess what the carpenter carried everything in. His grip.
The name Grip stuck throughout history. And Grips ended up using scrims, apple boxes, flags & gels and more. We also create shadow effects. In other words, now If you don't have good Grip crew, the show suffers.
The Grip truck is full of interesting stuff & gadgets not good for any other application. Mostly.
If you're a good Grip, you can help most other departments doing the show that needs a last minute change.
That's why I say, 'my Grip mind is kickin' in'. You must be open-minded & inventive.
Now there's a Hollywood Grip local #80 I.A.T.S.E.
I'll call the local tomorrow to ask how much it costs to join now.
It cost me $250 I think, in '73. Thirty bucks per quarter!
I bet I know your next question, but, ya gotta ask it.
Greg
Ps,,If you see 'First A.C.' that's the focus puller. He or she helps the camera operator by focusing AND changing lens sizing while walking with the dolly move!! Both hands are full & working at different times.
Some good AC's get stuck there 'cause you gotta be good plus co-ordinated & good under pressure!! And, your other job is to load the camera when the film runs out. And the film can't flutter 'cause it can be heard!
Special props to the 1st A.C.!! =D>

Well, we've totally derailed this thread, so I'll make it my last off-topic posting here.....

I don't know what the question is to ask it. :(

But I do know that one of my other (many) interests is railroads, and to this day the engineers (train drivers to you in the UK and Oz) call their satchel that carries their rule books and personal items a....grip!

It's okay, Ken.
DC was showing his gorgeous Hartge 6 that's gonna be in a movie. That's how things rolled in my direction.
And I didn't know the grip is still in operation!
This also confirms my reasoning, right?

This is such a stunning car.

I love henna red, and a sixer without a bootlid spoiler to spoil the lines just looks so good.

This is definitely one of the nicest ones I've seen. Must have had TLC overload. I would usually prefer a red interior and black exterior, but your car is equally good in my taste.
