Odometer incorrect

Post by e24nut »

Hi

I noticed that my trip meter and odometer on my 89 e24 are running slow. Is this likely to be the nylon gear wear issue i have heard of on earlier e24s. Any other cause known?
Thanks

Yup, and it will stop moving completely very shortly. If you want to see it quit quickly, punch the trip odometer reset.

Any time you are examining a 70s/80s/90s era BMW and you see that the trip odometer is sitting at zero it's a good bet that the odometer gears are DOA.

Are the cog mechanisms serviceable? I once had a complete cogs assembly out on the bench and recall it wasn't difficult to "adjust" the mileage reading, although I didn't try to take the whole thing completely apart.

Jeff at oddometer gears.com makes very high quality replacement gears. All you have to do is count the teeth on the gears you want to replace. His will be an exact fit
81 Euro 635 M90 with motronic. Currently under a complete nut and bolt restoration. Pictures at
