Door won't stay open
This morning when I arrived at work, I opened the door all the way and heard a pop. Now the door no longer stays open. I suppose the sound I heard was the door holder mechanism breaking? I searched through 29 pages of Exterior headings to see if this problem has already been discussed but didn't see anything. If it has can you direct me to that thread?
Or if not, can someone suggest how to fix the problem?
Not the biggest issue, but still don't want the door closing on my leg when parked on a slight incline.
Thanks.

Re: Door won't stay open
Replace the door brake with either a new or used one shouldn't be a problem to find

Thanks bpoliakoff, I didn't even know what the part was called, so this helps. I'll take the door panel off tonight to see what it looks like.bpoliakoff wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2019 6:30 pm Replace the door brake with either a new or used one shouldn't be a problem to find

Now that I know what they are called, I was able to find the part number (41511875865)
With an exploded view schematic:

and several for sale on ebay.
Cheers!

Re: Door won't stay open
I have a door brake on order.
It's self-evident how it attaches to the door, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it from the chassis?
It appears to be secured through a pin on this end.
But the pin looks to be mechanically crimped in position(?) What is the best method to remove this pin?

Grind the top or the bottom flush and knock it out.

Re: Door won't stay open
I thought of that, but then didn't have a part to replace it.
Upon further investigation, it appears that the pin is held by a locking ring. Here is a better picture.
If I damage it during the removal, I'll have to buy another one, like this.

Re: Door won't stay open
Yup, I've seen some with plain old "E" clips, and some with that rather elaborate clip you've shown. The fancy version is much easier to get off and on without having it shoot across the garage (or lawn ).

Re: Door won't stay open
I successfully replaced my broken door stop/brake.
I purchased a used one on ebay for $25 (w/free shipping).
New ones cost $50-$100 plus shipping.
I watched this youtube video on how to remove the door card panel without breaking any plastic hidden clips, especially the one at the front of the door.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyVEWDrqdCE&t=207s
Once I understood how the pin was held in, it was very easy to pull off the metal clip underneath with a small flat screwdriver. I was careful not to shoot it across the garage. However, the pin would not budge. So I watched this video to see how to remove it.

After spraying some lubricating spray in and around the pin and letting it penetrate, it did come out after a few taps with a hammer.
The "new" door brake went in pretty easily and the pin and clip were reattached. Good to go!
