Re: Returning With A Neat Find: 1984 M635CSi

You are obsessed - in a good way! Car is looking great - I just did a similar job on my M6. It's at the BMW dealer now getting an alignment and some of the chassis bolts torqued that were a little too much for me to do with limited clearance (no lift...) Wondering what the thinking is on the wheelwe...

Shows up on Maximillian's site, so it may be available there. Of course that's US based.

Re: FCO Euro-Disappointed with service

We're being hit with a double whammy of supply chain issues and inflation. As noted in some other threads front strut rods complete with bushings are impossible to find - they used to be everywhere. I bought rear self leveling shocks from the BMW dealer and between the order and delivery the price w...

Re: Returning With A Neat Find: 1984 M635CSi

Wow. 80 tons. I don't even have a press! Went to a friends place to use his small press to replace the front strut rod bushing, but we couldn't find anything matching the outside diameter of the bushing, so... I was at the BMW dealer getting some new self locking nuts for the ball joints and asked i...

Re: 1988 M6 Suspension Refresh

Solved. The bellows is indeed removable. I was concerned about pulling too hard and tearing it. Pulling upwards released it.

Thanks!

Re: 1988 M6 Suspension Refresh

Thanks very much Yasin. Unfortunately I'm trying to assemble it this week. I have a BMW club drive to Traverse City in a couple weeks and I'll be out of town for a while, so time is running short. I'll be painting the struts today, so looking to assemble tomorrow or the next day. Open to any other s...

Re: 1988 M6 Suspension Refresh

Thanks very much for the feedback. Yes, I agree that is how I read it as well. But the shock is shipped with the plastic ring already on the shock "captured" between the lock ring and the bellows. Is the bellows removable?

Thanks

Re: 1988 M6 Suspension Refresh

Another question. Maybe I'm a little slow today, but I'm fitting the Bilstein shocks into the front struts and I don't understand the assembly. Per the Bilstein instructions the white plastic ring (#2) should be over the strut housing (#4). But the ID of the plastic ring is smaller than the OD of th...

1988 M6 Suspension Refresh

Refreshing my suspension with new shocks and bushings. I'm replacing the front shocks with Bilsteins. I understand since they're gas shocks they don't need the oil in the strut as do the OEM versions. Any thoughts on putting a small amount of some type of lubricant/anti-corrosion fluid in them to pr...

Re: Rust stains on driveway

Tried the vinegar/lemon juice combination. Driveway rust-1.jpg Driveway rust-2.jpg It did improve, but the stain remains. Bert - I think your suggestion is a good one. I always consider acid as sort of the nuclear option. I'll see if I can obtain a small amount. A quick look at Home Depot seems to h...

Rust stains on driveway

As part of replacing my starter I ground down the outside of a socket to gain clearance (http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32071). I did this grinding with an angle grinder on the driveway. Unfortunately the removed metal stained the driveway with rust - not what I expected. I've tried ...

Yasin --

Did you attempt to press out the rear trailing arm bushings before resorting to the carbeque method? Wondering how hard they are to press out.

Car looks fantastic!

Wow. I was very interested in one of these as well, but not now. At some point you would expect Dinan to notice. Even a small batch run might be worthwhile.

Re: brake lines

I checked with HEL and they can't confirm that their brake lines fit a US 1988 M6. On realoem the rear brake lines are noted as same between a base 635 and a M6, but the fronts have different part numbers. Does anybody know the difference between the front brake lines? Is it just length? Thanks Scot...

Re: Turner Motorsport/ECS Tuning -- negative

I've recently been purchasing OEM/BMW parts from Maximillian as well. In my comparisons the price is usually lowest, and the service/delivery is fine. I'd recommend them for OEM parts.
