What did you do to your E24 today?

Post by rhanley 635csi89 » Sun Apr 25, 2021 12:14 pm

Progress, assembly of freshly painted valance and bumper.  New rubber purchased as old rubber has disappeared from the paint shop, center rubber NLA.  Purchased several center pieces off of ebay, none are in great shape.  I have a BMW license plate filler which I purchased some five years ago.
Bumper has been polished and ceramic coated, there are a few scratches, the bumper may have to be redone. Hoping scratches won't be noticed when the car is completed.
Car should be completed soon, it's been sooooooooo long! ](*,)

Resolved a non start problem I've had for a month now . After much head scratching and fault finding aplenty, issue was traced to an open circuit speed sensor . In the journey I removed an old ,but expensive and well fitted, alarm /immobiliser, found the main relay coil open circuit and learned a great deal about the Motronic basic system in my series one car .
Point to remember is that the speed sensor will prevent the car from starting , some sources suggest that it will cause rough running .

Much gratitude is given to Ron and Rob ( wattsmonkey ), Chris ( jps635 ) and Justin ( Beaker ) whose help in supplying parts ,support , diagrams and offers of ecu for me to try was enormous.
Thanks Lads .
Great site this ...... =D>

Bumper/valance/rubbers assembled and installed on the car. The shop painted the used licence plate center rubber to clean it up. Does anyone know of a better matching black paint that would match/blend with the color of the factory front bumper rubber? Or a pristine license plate center rubber. It's NLA, my car is a 1989.
Thanks, Roger

Rodger I'd try gently , very gently , scuffing that with 1200 grit to take the sharp black off it .

Looking great BTW.......

After a very long time to....

a) Get around to doing it.
b) Identifying the correct parts.
c) Waiting an eternity for parts to land in UK
d) Working out how everything goes back together correctly after making a mistake on my plumbing and electric diagrams.

.... I FINALLY completed the refurbishment of my Headlamp Wash Wipe system. Everything squirts and wipes exactly as it once did many years ago. I'm chuffed to bits.

Huge thanks to Brucey for his original "Pesky Squirters" thread (get well soon fella) and also to forum member "K1W1" for helping me identify the wash pumps required.

They might be NLA from BMW but freely available for a 1986 Porsche 944, same VDO part!!!!
