Are E23's any good - Yes it seems so

You are a nasty man mikko lol.
Yes as has been advised by others the heater is very tricky to get to. Still at the mechanics. I'm sure he will sort it but the only hassle will be making everything work when it goes back In.
I've got my b & o din7 lead to play my iPhone through the Becker Mexico (3.5mm aux only) and while the console and dash is apart I'm running a 8g lead to the trunk to add a subwoofer to help modrnise the audio.
Also while console is out I'm redoing the wood just with sandpaper then a gloss varnish spray. Even on coat #1 it looks great. Unfortunatey ill have to do all the wood now in this way.

just an update.
After I think about 32hrs of labour she now has a new heater core, all working. The e23 is so intricate where even simple removal tasks like the console take forever.
Still without a working heater the "luxury car" is useless. Im getting the e90 spring hats fitted up today also just to drop the front end a little.
Ill get some pics loaded when done.
Not sure whether to trial fit my ACStype1 3 piece rims on it. It may look a little over the top
I done a net search and found this which I quite like the look of. Thats the only pic of E23 with 17" split rims on the net that I could find.

You are slow if you used 32 hours to remove and install the heater core, it should take you less than half the time if you are doing it right..
Yes, the E23 is probably a bit more complex than most BMW's from that time, but they are not as bad to work with as most people think. I find them easy to work with, you just have to do some research before you start working on them and you will find it a lot easier. Everything is logical about the layout, you just have to learn where to find the screws and be patient about the thing's that you are doing with it.

Yes it took time but we have never done this before and all the info was for LHD. Still all electrical items now work.
I trial fitted the acs 3piece rims today. They fit (just) without spacers but I have quite a big buckle on one of the fronts to the point where it just clips the strut so ill have to get te wheel re-rolled. Also the front e90 spring hats won't fit as the e23 has a much bigger spring dia than the e24/28. It would look orsome with some more low on the front end. I donl now if i have to fet lowered springs for it or perhaps retrofit some e24/28 struts. Anyone know if they will just bolt in.?

I put the acs type1 3 piece rims on the e23. Unfortunately the front had a buckle in one of the rims which hope ill have back on Friday. They clear the 4 piston callipers by about 1mm. They look ok on but need a 15mm spacer on the rear and the front needs a drop. Ill do pics when I get the rim back.
Also have a drain issue from the sunroof filling up the LHS footwell with water.
I traced the pipes which seem to go behind the speaker and stop.
There must be some drain holes but they are not obvious so ill need further investigation.

Just a few more updated pics of the E23. The ACS type 1 wheels dont look too bad on the old girl. Suspension is lowered a little at the front and the leather restoration process is pretty well finished.

Yes that looks cool for sure.
Just fiddled with the air meter today. The spring was pretty well spot on bit the hex key was like 4 turns out and prob explains te slight hesitation then I press the throttle hard. Adjusted it back to 1 turn from the stop and it goes a noticeably better at low rpm. Now I have an option of wheelspin from a standing start well its a pathetic chirp but hey it's better than nothing from a first gear that winds out to 90km/h.

Hey chaps out there I gave my 7 series some long awaited loving. I have got the a/cond operatinal. Not the most exciting thing but its nice and cold in there now and it seems to function good as its 40degC here today. Now I have a fully functioning HVAC system in an e23. The only abmormal things are the evaporator drain must be blacked as I occasionally have a trickle of cold water on my feet and the fan speed seems to slow when I accelerate hard. Something to do with the vaccum setup probably.
Anyway it's nice having a cruiser that you can drive in the heat.

There is a one-way valve between the engine and the vacum reservoir that you could check, it's a common fault for them to get stuck in an either closed or open position when old.
Symptoms of a valve being stuck in closed position are when you get air towards the windshield and nowhere else. It doesn't need vacum to blow air towards the windshield but it do need vacum to blow air through the other vents, hence it being a typical sign of there being no vacum inside the system. The vacum reservoir is there to keep a constant amount of vacum inside the system when the car is under load and the engine isn't producing enough vacum, so if the opposite thing happened and the one-way valve got stuck wide open (or someone removed it!) the reservoir wouldn't be able to keep that constant amount of vacum anymore and would in fact drain itself when you're accelerating.
All vents will return to their standard position once there isn't enough vacum to operate them (since there is a spring inside the vacum chambers). So if the one-way valve is stuck open or missing the vents will keep opening and closing when you're stepping on and off the throttle, disapplying and applying vacum to the system. The one-way valve and vacum reservoir (which looks like a bunch of tennisballs) are located underneath the plate in front of the windshield, where the windshield wiper mechanism and fan is.

Used some tricky new shit on the seats from Gary Blackman in Richmond (here locally in Melbourne), which has a slight black dye in it. The leather is so soft now its almost sexually exciting, and it has a nice old school aroma also now... Enough typing ill let pics do the talkin

I'm still thinking about buying it from the States as it is unavailable in the UK (but expensive with the shipping).GazM3 wrote:Used some tricky new shit on the seats from Gary Blackman in Richmond (here locally in Melbourne), which has a slight black dye in it.

Ohmann leather prestige care.
I think it originates from holland.
Gary Blackman said I put it on with your hands with strong rubber gloves so u can massage it in all the cracks. It's pretty heavy using it that thick it took 2 bottles to do the 7 but there is lots of leather to do.
Don't use those disposable medical style gloves that they use at te sperm bank as thy are not strong enough even if u double them up.
