Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
Had my annual service done . Oil change , coolant changed , Brake fluid flushed and replaced w/ new brake fluid . We have to replaced the old external fuel pump that’s only 7 years old since it has sprung a fuel leak ( I don’t know why , why Bosch made the top of this fuel pump made of plastic ) near the negative terminal. The new Bosch Fuel pump has been shipped and it’s been 5 days already and it has not arrive yet .

Yesterday actually. Repainted the dipstick handle yellow.
Anal retentive I know, but I am waiting on the redye of the front seats to dry long enough to install. I should have done them sooner, I let the cracks grow larger than they should be. I like the Leatherique so far.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
I took my car in for the annual NYS inspection. The hamhanded "inspector" managed to f-up the ignition switch as it no longer has a spring return from the start position. So the dash lights up but no crank. I can barely hear a solenoid click. It started in the morning to get to the shop. Started to get into the service bay and started to return to the ready line but when I arrived, no start. We will dig into it tomorrow. Wish me luck.

So in a follow up discussion with the tech who asserted that the tech was not at fault. If he had twisted the key too hard, the key would have broken first. Given that the plastic starter switch was 36 years old, it is possible the contacts failed. I have asked the tech to retain the failed switch for an autopsy.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
The spring return was buggered in mine and I couldn't get a definitive answer on what needed replacing so replaced both the switch and the ignition lock barrel (swapped over the cylinder). From memory the spring return is in the switch.
Either way it's not too difficult a job but painful. If no one's been there before you'll have to chisel off the security screws which is just plain awkward and replace with machine screws. Remove the driver seat to make things easier.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
Alternately you can Dremel tool with a flex drive to cut a slot in the screws to use a regular screwdriver to remove them. First time I did the removal it was 95° F. I laid on my back with my legs over the driver's seat and used a chisel to persuade them to unscrew. I decided then and there that there had to be a better way, thus the Dremel. Took me a week to get over the backache. I wouldn't even attempt it today.

Ken,
The diagram on REALOEM shows a metric grub screw and a fracture bolt. Which one needed to come out? And if the fracture bolt, what was the metric size of the replacement hex bolt?
I feel your pain. So that's why I'll pay the tech to do the work rather than a chiropractor to fix my back. Some things are worth vending out.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
It's been almost 10 years since I last did that job, so the memory is a little fuzzy, but I _think_ it was 6 x 1.0M. And both have to come out. Any time I see "fracture screws" or "security bolts" my back twinges.

Got snapped..
Out for a drive with a few friends over some of the high passes in the Kerry Mountains . Whilst checking my FB feed later found this photo taken by a member of another club I'm a member of as we passed him.
First real test of the sports seats recently fitted and Mrs Olympia gave them her rare seal of approval.
Supreme accolade indeed .

New injectors!
Which injector would you rather have in your car? All sorts of surprises on a new project car.

Re: What did you do to your E24 today?
Well, essentially, it is "new"
The AFM cover is from a later model, but to my knowledge, they all fit
Suffice to say that trying t clean that waffle cover on the AFM is next to impossible
