Where is Brucey, I hope this isn't the answer...

Post by GRNSHRK »

Well, I know as a board moderator that there has been one very regular contributor to the forum that has been absent for quite some time, Brucey :-k

Brian (our admin) sent me this link and I am hoping that you guys in the UK can follow up and see if this is our guy or not, hoping the latter [-o<

https://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.p ... &start=195

Not sure why it starts on the 14th page of the thread, please start at the beginning :-"

And please report back to Big Coupe as well, as we dearly miss him, regardless of what may have transpired [-(

That cycling thread does not make for pleasant reading, and I'm fearful that their Brucey and ours are one and the same.

I have met him only on two occasions, and regrettably didn't swap contact details. If anyone has his Cambridge address, I could drive up there and knock on his door.

Oh no,

That must be our Brucey. I have been worried about him after not getting replies to emails for a while - a week ago today was the last time I tried to contact him. How ridiculous, I was worrying I'd sent an email of such inanity that it didn't deserve a response!

The news on the latter pages is much brighter.

Sending very best wishes to him for a swift and complete recovery,

Rob

You're right Rob, those later posts on the cycling thread do make much more encouraging reading.

Coincidentally, I was working on my windscreen wash and headlamp wipers today, and found his "pesky squirters" and "pesky headlight wash/wipe" threads invaluable. His E24 expertise alone would exceed my entire (and meagre) knowledge capacity and intelligence levels. But I gather from those cyclists that he is as well-informed and generous with his knowledge on two-wheeled matters, as he is on sharknose ones.

The man is a legend. Get well soon fella!

Oh man.......

I am so sad to hear this news about Brucey. Hopefully he will pop into the forum and see how many of us are worried about his well-being. Sending all the positive juju I can muster his way, for sure.

Hey guys, got an update from James Howgego, not sure who he is but I hope you guys might [-o<

Here's his quote from an email exchange with Brian:

"I spoke to Brucey this morning and he sounded bright I thought. I asked the ward staff if there is anything he needs. They said he has everything he needs apart from a small suggestion which me or another Cambridge based member can take care of, not anything that needs a fundraiser. They couldn't share much else due to confidentiality but I left my details to pass on to his family. If they get in touch and suggest there is some other more substantial need now or in the future I will let you know.
Please let me know if you're local and will be passing by Addenbrookes sooner than next week.

He had never struck me as a flowers type of fellow so I sent a card to him care of the stroke ward at Addenbrookes. Ward R2, Addenbrooke's Hospital Hills Rd, Cambridge, CB2 0QQ. As far as I know he has never given out his last name on the forum so I will not now either.

From cycling UK forum.

I'm sure he would appreciate your support and encouragement.

Cheers James"

This is very disturbing news.

The last post that I found from Brucey was back in January but from what I understand, his participation on this forum reaches back to its early days. I am a much more recent recruit that quickly learned to value Brucey's thorough and eloquent input. His depth knowledge concerning our cars is unmatched.

I too want to wish Brucey a quick recovery and hope to hear from him soon.

A friend managed to contact Brucey's mother yesterday and this was the message from the hospital:-

"The stroke affected the vessels between the hemispheres of the brain. He can say a few words, has been really frustrated with the drip and has also laughed at a joke, but very limited movement".

Will update as news comes in.

I'm sorry to hear this about Brucey. Besides the fact that he's so knowledgeable about these cars, he's always been a perfect gentleman in his responses to others even if the question has been asked many times before or the answer is obvious to most forum members. This sort of mature, humble, and kind attitude isn't so common anymore (I'm thinking of a couple of other BMW forums in particular....). We're all very fortunate to have him as a member of the group. I hope he gets well soon.

Brucey confessed to me in 2015 that he had become absorbed by cycling. Attached is a photo I picked up at that time.
The following on the Cycling UK Forum is astonishingly huge. Brucey was such a captivating contributor to bigcoupe and obviously has been an inspiration to cycling.
We are so sorry to hear the news about him and we all think very dearly of him.

Just a quick update - some improvements in motor skills, no longer being fed intravenously, but very frustrated at being stuck in hospital!

Update

Brucey has made improvements, movement in right hand coming back and his giant brain is clearly online: he has remembered the MoT dates for the fleet.! His speech has improved, too.

He is responding well to physiotherapy and was absolutely adamant that he would do the full fifteen minutes on the exercise bike!

Still frustrated, of course. I'm hoping to see him as soon as the lockdown measures lift, so keeping fingers crossed.

Cheers,

Rob

Update!

Spoke to Brucey via hospital phone yesterday! He was bright and absolutely himself, although I may have made him spill his dinner when he heard about Ron's most recent purchase...

He reports that he is numb down his left side and is worried that his beloved cycling might be on hold permanently.

Will be speaking again soon and will pass on everyone's best wishes, of course.

wattsmonkey,

Certainly great news. I sent a card to him and without a last name addressed it to the rehab
and "Brucey the Big6Coupe Guy". I'd like to know if he ever got the card, next time you speak
to him could you ask?

Thanks
