Very nice car!
Imported from Germany when it was almost new (100km).
It is strange that that was allowed during these days as the US versions needed to have catalytic converters and special bumpers. Or was a cat fitted when it was imported?

Paul, The DOT (US Department of Transportation) process varied greatly, depending on what state you live in, even what county, at least here in California

One of our locals who owns a Euro M635 registers it in a county that still doesn't require smog checks, if you can believe that

But he's on borrowed time and he knows it

The process did require reinforcements to be welded behind the bumpers, in the doors, additional side marker lighting, US headlamps, MPH speedo, even the word "Light" had to be changed in the dash where the headlight switch is

We see all sorts of conversions still to this day here, some better than others

How crazy is that, so much differences within one country...

We have to make some modifications too. When I imported my E24 from the US, the side markers needed to be removed and the head lights needed to be changed. That was it though.

I was aware of the variety in conversions, remember this one (sadly the link is death now)?
It was a Euro with US spec bumpers installed.
