1987 M6 - Marwin - caferacer

Post by DC » Tue Dec 01, 2020 8:57 am

Hi there,
after selling my 635CSi (viewtopic.php?f=25&t=4041) I had some pause with just one Turbo 628CSi but I needed more... It´s a shark disease, you know

I was looking at lot of adverts and also driving to cars personally many kms, but found nothing interesting which wasn´t rust bucket. I was quite desperate but after that I found this at facebook E24 pages:

I have some plans
the big ones are BC racing coilovers, Hartge wheels and Megasquirt ECU
then removing half-cage and install rear seats again because cage isn´t road legal here

It is interesting that your M6 has the set up for the air bag and what appears to be the "flush" fog lights.
My model year '88 has a build date of 5/30/87 with vin 0735. The US model '87 sixes came without the SRS (airbag) and the earlier chin spoiler with the "floating" fog lights. No other real differences until you attempt to source front spoiler and some interior pieces.

You have found and aguired a very good looking example.

I just looked at a high priced '87 M6 and realized the biggest outward difference in model years, the '87 was equiped with the "diving board" bumpers where our '88s were equiped with the world low profile bumpers. Having owned a non-M "87, the newer bumpers do improve the balanced looks of this classic.

Next are brakes - front is from e31 850 - 324/30 with 4 pot Brembo which is fine. I will upgrade rear to ventilated discs from 540i e34.
