The great stereo redo has been completed!!!
Well folks, the green shark finally has tunes again
But first, let's reference what I was struggling with early on, basically trying to get all of the old stuff working again
Other than a photo, no sense going there, here's a linky to see one of the issues I was facing
http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32770
So, long story short (hopefully ) here's the before and after, along with quite a bit of coin spent, I would rather not go there either
I wound up with not only one, but 2 new amps, AND a new head unit
Alpine is controlling everything while Rockford Fosgate is once again supplying the power
The first shot is the "before" mess that I left for years, sorry to say
But I also wanted to cover the battery as well, since it was moved, what, 12 years ago
I ran all new RCA cables and other required bits, I'm sure you guys know that it's not trivial
And of course, I want to extend a special thanks to Tommy once again
I have one email trail that, according to Google, has over 100 responses, discussing first getting the old stuff working, then on to the new equipment
And that doesn't include texts, phone calls, etc.
I didn't photograph a lot of the process, running cables through your interior isn't exactly exciting
And as always, comments welcome

Nice. Is that a relocated battery in the trunk?

Re: The great stereo redo has been completed!!!
Thanks gents
Ken, this thread was entered last night after a few cold ones, the spelling of "Fosgate" has been corrected
Jim, you can see the relocated Optima Red Top battery in the first photo, again moved quite some time ago, after realizing that my battery tray was rusting out
I said to myself right then and there that the battery wasn't going back under the hood, and about a month and a half later, I obtained that trick rear strut brace/battery tray combo and completely refinished the trunk
Luckily I had some trunk material leftover, which I used on the amp mounting plate and battery cover, which is just made out of wood
I never liked seeing the exposed terminals just sitting there open, so I took care of that while waiting for some electrical parts to be delivered from Crutchfield
Speaking of, I would like to give a nice shout out to the very helpful guys at Crutchfield as well, who assisted me along the way, and not just spend my money

Re: The great stereo redo has been completed!!!
Update, the head unit finally displays on correct amber with the help of my "son in law", even Inspector Gadget Tommy couldn't figure it out
I also went back into the trunk and redid a lot of the wiring, using proper 8 gauge wire for the grounds and ferrule type connectors on the speaker leads
I may go back in one more time to redo the remote signal wiring, again using the ferrule connectors
So, finally, pix of the head unit

Looking very good there Bobbo. Very professional and clean. And love that battery box/cover. I'd like to move my battery to the trunk someday

Loved your classic Sony as well Bobbo!
Alpines are great. I had a few in the past. Great sound and easy to use.

Re: The great stereo redo has been completed!!!
Thanks gents, lots of hard work and WAY too many times in and out of the trunk
I guess it's a good thing I'm only 5' 7" and 150 pounds
Paul, I spent a lot of time trying to get the old Sony to work, but finally gave up
Loving the Alpine, great sound, still sorting out the numerous features, but having fun in the process
