My Eleanor - 635CSi Hartge

Post by DC »

Inspired with Kaotig?s "year with my 6er," I decided to write my story as well. It is right here

Why Eleanor? You know 60 seconds - Eleanor is unicorn in there and my car is unicorn for me...

Why Hartge? Rims, Interior, rear badge and probably more in the future ;-)

I have owned this car almost 1 year. It is my 7th BMW - Previously I had 6 E30s. I bought it 8th February 2006 in Berlin, Germany. We transported it to Prague, Czech Republic where I live. It?s about 400 km.

It?s 635CSi 9/82 in hennared color with air-con, black el. Recaro leather seats, manual overdrive gearbox with 3.07 LSD, Koni suspension, ABS, carphone - bought with 16" golden/polished Remotec rims

and here is the first photo at home

It has a respray, because the original red color faded - of course the same color as original.

At first it was necessary to work hard to make it look as new one, but I have lot of free time so last winter I did almost everything needed and now I am only solving some details and design bits.

some major work done:
fixed interior fan speed control
adjusted doors
changed engine hood bowden cable
new lights in trunk and engine bay
new front window
changed ABS front-left sensor
new ac cooler and ac filled
fixed play in shifting mechanism and shortshift installed
new door handles
polished valve cover and front strut bar
installed KN air filter
complete head rebuild using new parts
installed powerflex bushings for front axle
and lot of minor design adjustments like stainless tailpipes, polishing and experimentation with wheel designs

I had all necessary work done so there was time for first drive in May.
I took my 6er to one of our BMW community meeting in may 2006. I was amazed from it?s driving behaviour - it?s addictive like a drug  :-)

Image

Image

then I bought new camera and tried making some night photos

Image

Image

In June I got a good deal on Azev A sport rims so I tried them on my 6er

Image

In July I bought her sister - Jasmine and in August they were shinny stars on czech BIG BMW meeting organized by me and my friend (we had 200 bimmers there - mostly e21, e30, e34, e36 and 7 e24 )

Image

In september was my friend selling 18" BBS RK from his e39 and because I?ve seen them on Jose Juan Torres car I was really looking forward to see how they fit my 6er. And you can decide now if it was a good idea or not - here is the picture with them.

Image

In those days I was really enjoying my car and I also visited two drift events - in Sosnov? and in Brno - I am very satisfied with my car - it is perfectly manoeuvrable during drifts threw corners - both slow and quick ones.

Image

Image

In December I finally found my dream rims - they are rare 18" OZ Racing Hartge 3-pieces rims. I bought them, polished them and fitted on my car in January 07.

Image

Image

Now I am preparing the car for season 2007 and getting it better in real than on photos.

I don?t drive my car in the winter so it?s usually covered in my garage

You can also see a lot of pictures here -> http://www.bmw.zpevak.net/henna635.htm
and here in section gallery too ;-)

today I was removing tarmac micro-dots from the front&hood of my sixer - now the paint is as good as new

I have one picture - funny comparison of wheel size between my car (18") and yellow one (14") :-)

I found this on ebay and thought of you.

Looks to be in extremely nice condition and would make a nice spare or for the other car. These seem to be much more difficult to find than the Alpina's.

Cruise control story

Previous owner of my car told me that it has cruise control. I saw it had selector lever switch for cuise control so I didn?t focused on that anymore till the time I examined it home. I found out that it had only that lever switch. So i bought other parts needed, and finally today equipped with retrofit and electrical troubleshooting manual for my 6 I installed it to my car. First try was unsuccesful because I plugged speedo connector to wrong plug, but after I repaired this mistake it started to work and I am very happy. It?s cruising alone :-)

and here is small video

On my 80 Euro I had the same front air dam after my Alpina dam was crunched. I never installed the fog lights as there was a nice scoop to the brakes that lined up exactly with the fog light openings. :D

yes of course - your advantage with black color is, that it is less noticeable

Actually George's 80 is green, Cypress I think, its a rather unique color from the pictures I have seen here.

Yep! and just so he doen't get upset, my son Dirk now owns the 80 Euro. :) He waited 25 years for me to sell it to him. He has helped to do various mods over the years and knows the car as well as I do.

Did your car break down and you have to revert to using a horse? ;)

I like your other pics too btw.

The one of your car and gf in front of a mansion - is that in Prague? Is it owned by anyone famous?

Cool..

There's a castle near Dvoř?k's birthplace that would look awesome as a background to an Eleanor photoshoot :)
