Bought another 635

Post by Ozibimmer »

Hi Guys
I just bought another 635csi.
This one is a Australian compliance model and only a bit of rust on the rear right tail light lower area and a few spots here and there.
Its another white one but a 1986 model.
I have added a few pictures from the seller. Its coming from WA.
I won't have it till the 20th of this month.
Bilstiens and springs ready and It willbe dropped 2 inches.
I have decided to to throw the simmons onto the new one and also with the purchase ahe has thrown in all I need to convert to a Getrag Dogleg conversion including a M635 diff.
I will be doing a lot of work to get this up to top notch condition.

Hi Skipper
I now have 6 bimmers
2 x E24 635s
1 x E32 735
1 x E23 735
2 x E36 318is
Sold the 2 E39s
Im selling all but the 2 635s as I love them.
My plan to put my first e24 I bought on the track and do it up as a full race spec for historical racing is well under way now. I have big plans for the 86 model to get it to a really good M spec example. so looking for the Mtec body kit.

what sort of historic racing are you planning? I raced my E3 (see pic) at the first HSRCA event 2 weekends ago. She went like the clappers.

Your options are limited however. I actually bought my 1977 633CSi to historic race. There are two classes with the HSRCA. Nc, which is for touring cars built before December 31 1972 (so BMW E3's are in) or Sc which is for production sports cars 1970 to 1977 (so E9's and 2002's). I thought my 633CSi would be logged as Sc but, your car model must have had a racing history. No 633CSi's ever raced. The E9 Batwing raced into the late 1970's.

So this leaves you with the problem as to where you would place your 635 racer. There is an improved producion series with Historics for cars pre 1986. This may work. You could even go bigger brakes and the M88/3 engine as improved production permits using the best available for that car shape during the production run, hence the category name.

Either way when you start the build keep us updated.

Josh

Wow Shipper car loks great.
I joined the Queensland Historical club and the MG club here as they have great track days and hill climb events at mt Cotton.
I was looking at Improved producion series with Historics for cars pre 1986.
I want to set the car up as a Road car and register the car but track it as well.
My mate has a Croup c Brocky replica and drives it to work every day =D>

Congratulations Addam. Hope it all works out well for you. Which car are you converting to manual? Josh is correct with his statements about historic racing but there are plenty of club events and supersprints to keep you busy.
BTW Josh, your car looks great.
