Targa West 2016 - Perth this coming w/end

Post by DRPM635CSi »

Anybody with an E24 gonna be spectating this event this coming weekend? I've just registered for displaying an M635CSi on Langley Park on Sunday (more for the free parking during the final stage than anything else) & was just wondering if anyone else was planning on going along with their cars? BMW's are usually very poor attenders of this event both in terms of competitors + spectators, so just thought I'd mention it here and see if I can not be the only E24 in attendance.

Looks like there is at least one E30 M3, a 302 V8 Capri Perana and an electric i3 in the entry list and I see they've gotten Jim Richards/Barry Oliver to enter again in a Coxster GT4, so there is that to see at least.

Love to be there, but maybe just maybe I might be starting my S38 conversion after 2 years of waiting next weekend.

From the organiser...

Code: Select all

Our display is right alongside the Targa West Sprint course along Riverside Drive so you get a ringside seat with authorised parking.
Due to road closures, access to Langley Park this year will be via Hill St., then across Terrace Road and I’ll be at the entrance to the Park.
Cars may enter the park from 08:00 and should be in position by 10:00 when the walking public are expected to join us. The car show will last until 3:00pm but if anyone wishes to leave before that they can contact me on the number below and I will arrange an escort. I joined a walkabout on Langley Park this morning and although some of it is waterlogged we judged that there was enough hard ground for our display. The weather forecast (for what it’s worth) is showing the current weather easing up and the weekend should be fine.

Pretty dull start to this event if I'm being perfectly honest. Went up to first stage at Wanneroo Raceway and nothing much of interest happened besides the Lamborghini Gallardo spinning 360° on the track without hitting anything and then continuing on. Only 60 cars in the whole thing, so the runs are over pretty quick. Very few interesting cars. The BMW i3 is the most underwhelming & boring competition car you could ever imagine. If electric cars are the future of motorsport, then I think we better be prepared to find another sport to get interested in.

The i3 was the only entry I saw all day that got caught & passed in the stage. The E30 M3 is still an absolute screamer of an engine. The revs it sounds like it's pulling are absolutely amazing. The rest are all pretty much ho-hum, boring. The usual fill of Mishitbus Evo <insert roman numerals here>, Subaru Imprezza & Nissan GTR-3x models all turbo, AWD that are unbeatable and incredibly dull to watch.
