Post by Vinster88 » Sun Apr 11, 2021 1:27 pm

Hi everyone, I'm searching for the correct center caps for a set of wheels that came with My new to me '88 M6.

The wheels in question are BBS Style 5 in Chrome finish

RC 009 and RC 090.

Can someone direct me on where to get these.

Thanks, Vince

Brand new only £100 or so for a set - a rare bargain in the BMW world!

For what it's worth, you've got the same set up that I'm using on my 635 - the ET20 Rc090s perfect for the front; ET10 RC009s on the back to fill the arches - the 10mm makes all the difference. Even better, I took my time and picked up two different spare wheels from ex 8 series owners for the RC009s, one of them has never been used at all!

I'm not a fan of really wide tyres, so this suits me down to the ground.

Lovely set of wheels Rob. The big question is.. are they already shiny with nice bolts or is sir planning a few weekends with the metal polish and cloths? Run RC090 ET20 all round on mine and need to get some new bolts as have rust on the existing, can't decide if to get originals with splines (which will no doubt rust again) or stainless (but then they don't look right due to bolt on the outside).. choices.

I have a set of six of these in 17"; a staggered set of E34 with ET20 on the front and ET22 on the back and a pair of ET10 fronts from an E31 - they're all in cardboard boxes at the back of the garage after being refurbished a while ago.

Ha! E39 fronts are in usual parlous state - will need to get busy polishing and doing my best to replicate diamond cut finish on the E31s.

Had decent results polishing mine using a dremel and a 200 pack of cotton polishing wheels purchased form ebay.. metal polish and used each pad for a minute or 2 just to get the worst of it off. Couldn't face doing it by hand!

Did your wheels still have the paint on the rims?

That's a negative Rob, just years of corrosion.

If clearcoat is still on them then some form of stripper would likely work.

Polished are a pain though, have to keep them covered in wheel protector (i use chemical guys, a green goop substance) else they start corroding in a matter of weeks.
