Radio/audio noise

My '88 M6 has Sony head unit and Alpine amp in the trunk. When I play any source there is an underlying scratchy sound coming from all speakers in addition to the music. I have already tried changing the fader switch. Made no difference. Any ideas?

I've heard of engine (whining) noise but not a stratchy noise, do you mean static noise? Here's a good site check:
