Tool tray and red handled screwdriver

Post by Jlc »

I've almost completed my tray - just need the Z tool and wheel hub tool. I don't think my 85 had a tow hook as it has no fog light valence but two two hooks up front. A couple of questions:

I have an extra tray but it is different than mine. I'm guessing it is from an earlier E24 given the fuses are not Buss type but have metal tipped ends. Anyone know what year it might be from?
Also, it has a red handled screwdriver labeled with W Germany but not Heyco? Searching for red handled Heyco brings up a lot of posts in various sites but.a lot of contradictory information. Anyone know if BMW used non-Heyco branded screwdrivers?

As a result of my search have a number of duplicate tools I am sorting through.

Picture of the tray and some of the tools:

That is a Heyco driver and correct for early trays. The tray itself is likely from an early series 1 as it is very similar to my 81 e12 tray

Thanks. If you know anyone that needs a good bottom tray I now have one.

the rag is interesting - the guy I bought it from mentioned he had an old BMW rag in his drawer for years and offered to throw it in.
