Power seat original look
Hi,
Since my seats were very creatively redone and very little remains of original seats rails I would like to get some help from fellow shark owners.
I would like to get pictures from parts that connect seat to the actualy rails. How is the seat connected to the rail, where are the bolt holes that do that and how does the part that has the bolt holes look like.
1. Photo of the part that connects the seats to the rails, how it bolts on etc.
2. Photo of the motor that is controlling the seat recliner, I have a feeling that something is not right there aswell
I feel like I am missing this piece here, its not exactly number 9, but I am missing the bigger piece that number 9 connetcts to.
I am not entirely sure that this is the piece that I need, but it sure seems like it.
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... 7119932852 New rails that i bought look like this
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ERogu1RW2rQunZcP9
The reason for these photos it to fabricate a nicer way for these seats to fit on the original rails again and feel and look as original as possible without actually buying whole new seats, since the leather on the seats is actually very nice.
If you got any ideas how to fabricate that part I am all ears.

Re: Power seat original look
Review this post. Reminder that some pictures are of a manual e30 sport seat
https://bigcoupe.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=12299
I do have complete sport seat frames, gearboxes and hinges. Because of the prior welding work, you may have to replace the bottom frame. Top frame should be fine unless it’s broken
I agree you need to utilize the excellent skins you have on hand. Good luck

Re: Power seat original look
Thanks, was a good post.
Only picture that I could recognize was the plate where the backrest adjuster is seated on.
But I could use another picture with the adjuster on and a picture of how the seat is actually bolted to the rails.
I got no idea how the seat is supposed to bolt on or connect to the lower rails, which holds the motors - this is where I am most hurting.
Also tried to search the internet, but couldnt find a good picture.

Re: Power seat original look
You have the complete seat with the rails included.
The photos of the seat moved forward and back reveal the holes
of the rail where the seat bolts to the floorboard.

Am I missing something?
86_6series said that I have a seat with full rails included, but I think they are e28 top rails built between e24 seats and e24 lower rails.
Or did I misunderstood something?

Re: Power seat original look
Pics of Sport Seat mounted to rails. Rear is mounted to rails as pictured below. The lower arm of the hinge (it adjust bottom rear seat height) bolts to the rails
The front mounts with a hinge pin between two hinged arms. The lower arm is connected to the motor for adjusting bottom front seat height
All the welding work in your pictures are not factory. From what I see, you have sport seats welded to comfort seat rails. The photo link to the rails you bought(?) show comfort seat rails as well. Good luck

Re: Power seat original look
Definitely not factory, that's why I am so confused about how do the original seats should work and what would be the best way to restore my seat rails. All the welding work in your pictures is not factory.
Damn, so I thought that comfort and sport rails are the same... That means I kind of fked up.
What would be the most reasonable way go on about it?
Swap out the comfort seat inner rails to sport seat inner rails? Can it be done?
Are there any better alternatives? Maybe fabricate a way for sport seats somehow to bolt onto the comfort rails?
The biggest issue that I can see with fabricating my way for sport seats to find on comfort rails is that how would be moving the backrest work.
Right now sport seat rolls over these parts of the seat. But how do the comfort seats move in order for someone to crawl to the back seat?

Re: Power seat original look
This is the left side hinge and gearbox set for the sport seat. Mirror image for right side but without the gas charged shock. You wiill need at least a gearbox
Removing the gearbox exposes to teeth for the hinges. Make sure the teeth are all intact on both sets of levers
The pin (driver points to) activates the spring loaded stop for the backrest release. I see a cable attached to it in your picture
I have the parts you need but you need to determine what you have that is in good shape and serviceable
Ralph
Edit - I just saw the lower lever on your hinges are welded so you’ll need hinges as well. Unfortunately your question about how to adapt Sport Seats to Comfort Seat Rails is what you have now
FYI - Manual Sport Seat hinges are different from Powered Sport Seat hinges so be careful what you buy

Re: Power seat original look
Sorry for the late reply.
So what I had before was welded comfort rails to sport seats.
I made a bad mistake of buying comfort rails again, but instead of welding sport seats to comfort rails I fabricated an "L" shaped adapter and just drilled holes into L shaped adapter and bolted the seats to the rails. Because right now I just brutally bolted the seats onto the adapter and lost the ability to move my backrest, everything else works fine.
Like Ralph mentioned the seat hinges are busted, both of them (front and back). Rear hinges are welded somehow (as seen on the picture) and the front hinges were previously welded so now I drilled them loose and as mentioned bolted them to the adapter.
All the seat hinges has holes that have 13mm diameter, that's why I believe I need new hinges.
As far as I could see both hinges are welded to the seat inner frame.
I think I need everything that's below the seat itself and connects to the sport rails, after now my thorough research I think the parts would be.
1. Front seat hinges, both sides and both seats
2. Rear seat hinges,, both sides and both seats
3. Sport power seat rails with mechanics, both seats
4. front hinge pins that connect seat hinge and seat rails, both sides and both seats
5. rear hinge pins(?) that connect seat hinge and seat rails, both sides and both seats
5. If I understood right I am also missing gas springs for the backrest?
6. If the motors of the comfort seat and sport seat are different, then I also need motors.
Drawing of what I have and what I think I should have. I tried to make it as clear as possible.
If you open the image up separately, the smaller text is also readable.
