Bonnet Allignment

Post by Tej »

Can anyone tell me how to adjust the bonnet on a 635csi high line, have got the car recently resprayed from a body shop and now the bonnet is out of line. There doesn’t seem to be any adjustment for it to go right and left other than the 6 screws that attach to the bonnet.

I can't help with the alignment. I just received my car back after a respray, Bonnet is aligned, however, the bonnet bump stops were not installed which prevent the bonnet from hitting the car.

Have you tried loosening the bolts slightly and carefully nudging the hood in the direction you need? IIRC that's how I did it on my e30 years ago.

There are another 6 bolts (3 per side) behind the head lights, which make it possible to move the bonnet up- and downwards.

Hi

I have the same issue, I need to move my Bonnet around 2mm to the right.
I have removed my headlight’s to try and see if it will move a little.
I’ll let you know if I can do it.

I've seen my body shop friend grab the hood or trunk lid and give it a little
shove or a slight twist in the direction to create even gaps.

Years ago I visited Ford's Rouge River plant with my dad. Besides seeing whitebody Mustangs getting ready to ship to Shelby I watched them assemble cars and if a door didn't fit quite right whack it with a rubber mallet...

Just a note of caution, it's the struts that stops the hood from
touching the header. The bumpers are there to soften
the stopping of the hood. Correct strut size is vitally
important.

You should be able to get that movement if you loosen the three bolts on each hinge which attach to the bonnet. Keep two on each side loose and just nip up the third until you've got it right - then tighten them all down. You may want to put a towel or suchlike under each front corner whilst you're moving the bonnet to avoid chipping the paint

Hi

After removing the headlight assembly you can get to the bottom of the bonnet/ hood hinge and move it only about 0.5mm, which isn’t a lot but makes a big difference because the bonnet/hood is quit long.
You can also raise or lower it from this point.

Good look.
