Investigating the 3D printing of the L/H/S water deflector. There is no part number and it doesn't appear in the parts breakdown.

Also printing a "handed" version for the R/H/S.

Already done!

I will say this part 3d printed is subject to high temps that can push it into glass transition temp territory even for ABS since the part is thin.

I have been running it for a year in the ATL sun and its done ok, but I don't leave my car outside often.

It deflects the water from falling directly onto the rubber grommets where the large cable looms come through from the cabin into the fan/wiper/ABS ECU scuttle area.

Put me down for a right hand and left hand pair please.

Hi Ron

Should there be one on both sides. Replaced my intensive water bottle pump and noticed it has no protection from the rain. I just have a deflector on the passenger side.

I was looking at the drivers side of my RHD M635 the other day. There is no protection for the intensive water pump or large cable grommet, and simply putting an mirror image of the nearside type would do very little to provide protection. If I get time and I'm bored I might wander out to my garage with a beer*, a piece of cardboard and a pair of scissors and see what shape might work.

*The beer is essential for cerebral lubrication

I have my best ideas after beer.. wake up the next day with surprise eBay purchases and a long list of new hobbies.. gets me no end of telling off by the lady.

Got a mate with a 3D printer so if Anchored wouldn’t mind sending the model file over we could try printing them here in the UK .. them maybe flip the model for the RHS, might work?

Message me and I can drop you the file.

Will need to be printed in PETG at the least. ABS would be best.

What a gentleman, thanks and email sent.

I’ll ask friend to look over the file and do a test print... yours looks good so fingers crossed we can make them work this side of the pond.

Anchored kindly sent the file over and mate is going to look into ABS printing this weekend.

He has printed stuff for me before but not in ABS which i believe is harder to do as its very temperature sensitive.. Anchored pointed out that we may have problems printing the thinner part of these deflectors in ABS so will just have to have a go and see what happens.

Mate says he needs some form of cover for his printer so as to keep the heat in.. been toying with the idea of getting a 3d printer and stuff like this makes it harder to hold off ordering one from alibaba :D

Will try to get the LHS one printed then we can look to modify the model for the RHS so as to give more protection. Just need card, scissors and beer ;)

Hi,
Was at Silverstone Classic a few ago as we were leaving there was a torrential downpour, and to my surprise I noticed as I was driving water was coming in to the passenger compartment and going over my legs !!

I think I know why now...my car has no deflectors and I think it needs them.

Put me down for a left and right....thanks !!

Been a while but friend has finally got himself a 'tent' to keep the heat in the 3d printer .. apparently this is needed for ABS printing.

His first attempt, needs some work as the print failed after 5 hours:

Have asked him to have another go, lets get the nearside one sorted then we can work out a modification for the off side.

I would check the harness grommet in the cowl as well as grommets down the firewall.

Would be expensive to ship to you.

I can provide the file and you can source it locally.

My 85 doesn’t have them. I wonder if they are year specific as the Po was pretty good about upkeep
