I am having a body shop refinish my front spoiler. It's in good shape but has couple small cracks near the fog light opening.
Body shop wants to fix it right but they are not sure what material it is. They tested ABS and polypropylene welding materials but it wasn't compatible. Could it be some sort of polyurethane? I found a post on E28 forums and someone stated that BMW used polyurethane in that era.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 1986 Front Spoiler Material
I'm not sure what the material is, but it is very flexible and requires a special paint and primer to avoid cracking over time. My bodyshop took lots of hours to strip and then repair the years of use and pummeling these things take.
I am also in the process of having mine repainted (on my '86):

Thanks for reply.
I had the spoiler sand blasted first. It was much faster process than sanding off old paint. It came out very nice. Body shop will need to prep it some more. I made sure that they use flex agents in the primer and paint.
I should come out pretty nice.
