Door rubber seals

Post by ColinC.sg » Fri Jan 07, 2022 4:42 am

Hi experts,

I am aiming to replace my door seals as the current ones are original and a little worn.
I ordered a set from Wallothnesh which arrived in good order.
Also realised the current seals are “upgraded/improved” to give better soundproofing.
Then I realised it was quite hard to install.
I have some pictures
1. The shape doesn’t have a hard bend in the front corner indicated by a red arrow

2. I worked with my body shop guy to have the seal slotted in to the channels and it pretty much fitted but I couldn’t close the door. I realised that the front corner was probably slightly dislodged from the channels so giving resistance to the door. It gets out of position when the lower part of the door seal is fitted to the A-pillar. This requires the seal to be twisted because it doesn’t have a hard bend.

Does anyone have have experience to share on this.
Would appreciate any pointers.

I tried searching online and here but don’t have enough info especially with this current seal which is being sold.

Does anyone who has installed this new seal have pictures of how your seal sits? Would appreciate if you could share them.

Thanks in advance.

Hey ColinC.sg,

I’ve finally got around to changing the passengers side last year and had a hell of a time. Had the same problem as you, thought I installed it wrong, tried a few times, took a break and reached out for help.

Thanks to a buddy (Klaus), whom recommended 3m’s weatherstrip adhesive. You can buy it at your local auto parts store.

You’ll need to get the weatherstrip installed and put a dub of adhesive on the body, let it get tacky then hold the weatherstrip in place for a few minutes then close the door and let it dry for a day or two depending on where you live and how how warm it is to dry.

Good luck

Thanks Tommy,
Do you have any pics to share so I don’t misinterpret this.
I’m also wondering where the seal sits
My problem is that I can’t seem to close the door

Thanks

You will need to start inserting the seal from front to rear. After installing it, you can put a dab of the 3m adhesive on the auto body where the seal will sit. As the adhesive drys a bit until tacky, you push the seal onto it, if the seal sticks in place then close the door. If not, try again with more adhesive. Good luck.
