Wanted: 1986 e24 Blower Speed Control

Post by RWayneRogers »

I'm looking for either the original part number (61311377138) that was in my car or the part that superseded it (61311381317).

This is the unit that the fan speed dial connects to. It regulates the fan speed when AC is on or not. All searches and part sources I'm aware of do not have this unit. Repairs seem possible but mine has a broken input pin to the Max Blow Speed connection.

I'll consider this item in any condition.

Thanks,

Wayne

The small micro switch for Max speed is replaceable separately. The switch has to be disassembled for replacement. New micro switches are readily available in the internet as they are very common

The entire switch itself is currently NLA

I seem to have the same problem...

The blower is either ON or OFF, any in-between turning of knob does nothing.

So any hints to a complete noob in mechanics? :)

Can I please ask for a picture of the part you are looking to replace? The one with a broken pin?

Ralph - any hints to what a "new micro switch" may look like if I want to source one?

Thanks!

You probably need to replace the speed transistor(s).
There’s one for the heater blower and one for the ac blower.
The entire transistor units are available for around $130 each. Those are plug and play.
Or, if you can solder, you can buy the transistor separately from an electronics shop online for around $5.Then you unsolder the old one and solder in the new.
I just did that, it wasn’t hard and it worked.
You can google it for more info. Here’s an example

Micro switch available on eBay

Jubilados may be correct. It’s a known issue.

my 1984 635's fan just stopped working. at first, the fan would only work on the "high" speed, but it is no longer working anymore. will this transitor also cause a non-op fan? i don't think it is the fan, because the fan was working fine, but only working on "high" speed at first, then not working at all. which leads me to believe it is the transitor.

thanks

Mine would only do fast until I replaced teh transistor. While that may not be teh cause of your issue it might be worthwhile to do a transistor replacement to see.

You may have 2 separate problems.
My understanding is that on high, the transistor Is bypassed.
So when it was only working on high, that was probably a failed transistor.
Now that it’s not working at all, it seems like a new additional problem.

ok, i will diagnose. i replaced the fan about 4 years ago with a used fan. my euro 635 does not have AC, so the issue is only with the heater fan/blower. if the transistor is by-passed at high fan speed, then it does seem like there are two separate issues. thanks for the help and i will update.
