M635 Premium Rear Deck Speaker - Black Grill

Post by jbmike »

Looking for a pair of black grills for M635 premium rear deck speakers.... OR - Suggestions on how to recolor tan grills black (I don't think spray paint will work as it will probably seal the grill holes....

Thanks in advance.

I have not painted car grills, but have successfully painted other speaker grills, such as in wall ones to match the surroundings. First question: Is there a cloth behind the grill? If so, you need to remove it first, as that certainly would hold paint and mess up the grill. The secret to painting grills is, as with any paint job, to use a lot of light coats. That prevents runs and drips into the holes. Make several passes over the grills until you get the look you want. Also be sure the paint is compatible with the plastic.

If you know someone with an airbrush you could even do a custom color match.

I use Leatherique Dye with great results. MY car's interior was "Nutria" I swapped out the seats with Havana Brown Water Buffalo seats and adding rear head rest. I reconditioned and redyed the seats with Leatherique products. Regarding the speakers, I prep per mfg recommendations and applied the dye using a very fine roller I purchase at Hobby Lobby. Still look great, work done in approx. November 2016.

Duplicolor fabric and vinyl paint. Its magic, sticks well and looks flawless.

I sprayed some dove gray armrests black and it still looks perfect.
