UK (Glasgow) M635CSi for sale 1987, low mileage.

Post by Pod »

Just listed and a single bid for £8k. No 'plates on it and the VIN tag is obliterated - so one for you to investigate Ron!

Seems strange to have comfort electric (?) seats fitted. I had no idea that was possible on one of these, unless they've been changed?

Well, the auction was cancelled on 5th August as "no longer available". There were two bids of £18k & £27k, so I guess the car fetched somewhere between those two amounts?

Wow! That sold quick. I'm quite astounded that it made £25k with all the necessary work. No doubt there will be more required that the seller missed, as he's only owned it for a few days

I wonder how long it will be before it re-emerges on the market - and for what asking price :-k

Re-listed by the same seller and up from £25k to £30k with a full respray, following repairs to the sills, front wings, roof and rear quarters as well as all new tyres and a new exhaust listed as 'needed to be done'.

The seller posted a link to the Ebay ad on an E24 FB page with a glowing validation of how good the car was .
When asked if this was the same car that was sold last week in Glasgow .......he pulled the thread/post .

I see it is back on eBay for £28,500 requiring a
“full restoration”. I’m not sure what this means after reading Sharkfan’s post (I’ve been away so missed the eBay listing).

Looks like the buyer realised he has bitten off more than he can chew and is trying to get out with a profit. Not much chance of that IMO, bearing in mind my previous estimate of the purchase price as it would appear to need more than fair bit of work, as I suggested 😉

My post listed all the stuff the ebay listing said it needed doing as well as a few pointers of mine own; so what do we think a full restoration costs then?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334133246568 ... Swj71hL4-4

Because this car quite obviously needs a full glass-out, full take apart restoration let alone what the engine, transmission and other electrical components may need after not being used for the last 15 years. So, restoration costs...

£15k?

£20k?

£25k?

Oh I see, Sharkfan. Reading your post, I thought you said the work HAD been done!

Well, depending upon who does the resto, I can see it costing £20-£25k (or more). If one was to do the work oneself, not costing hours worked etc. Then more like £5k - but that depends just how far you take it!

I think the absolute minimum spend would be well over £10k even if you stripped the car yourself; by the time you factor in rust removal, full prep and a full respray, as well as all the bits and pieces of trim that you have to replace to do all that, and add a tiny fighting fund for the oily and electrical bits - actually, no, nearer £15k minimum as you will want the interior to look half decent too.

I genuinely think a minimum c£15k spend and perhaps hedging toward £25k if you don't lift a finger yourself...

...and he wants £28.5k after spending what? Less than £20k?

Just over 2 hours to go, bid to £18,900 but reserve not reached. I had a look and found the reg. is E557 NDU and it was last MOT'd in August 2007 @ 68,592 miles. It had a pretty poor fail on its January 2006 test. Doesn't look as if the (then) owner looked after it very well, especially as it was a relatively low mileage example, so one can only assume that the "restoration" requirements will be many and expensive.....

No more bids so it didn’t sell. He said he wouldn’t be listing it again…..

Bear in mind all those faults were apparent 15 years ago, so it certainly looks as if it is a rust bucket bearing in mind the seller’s comments on his first listing (which for some reason he deleted in the second!)

.....to make things even more confusing, here is the data I got from my usual decode site. Look at #469.........!

In fact, I have only ever had one E24 with comfort seats, my first E24, (out of a total of 24+ cars) - so I guess its accurate to say that this option is pretty rare?

Comfort seats are rare in an M635 but not unknown, as are cars without the wheel arch extensions because they were not ordered with the 415TRX wheels - some cars with the 390TRX wheels were not fitted with the extensions, I saw a black/pearl biege one in Leeds many years ago.
