Muscle Car Masters

Post by 635911 »

Anyone going to Eastern Creek this week end?

Jim and the Group C 635, plus many other notables.

I'm planning on Sunday but subject to weather it might be Saturday.

Heading down Friday afternoon to catch up with Pip. Jim will be racing the Group C I think.

I went to the Victorian version last year at Phillip island. Definetly worth the entry fee.

Dropped in on Jim and Pip Barker on Friday afternoon. Pip is building my new E3 Silver Racer race engine. Original Group A Block and Crank. Original M1 procar rods and original 2 valve Group C pistons.

Here's the photos. Pip is the older guy talking to my mate Elie. As against my mate Ellis who as we all know is a professional 635CSi one armed racing photography bandit!

Thanks Josh. I never get tired of reading about those cars and days. At a time when every single one of my mates were Holden or Ford V8 fanatics, I was the butt of much ridicule as the sole BMW fan.

There was nothing to ridicule BMW about when the 635 beat 5.8 ltr Falcons, RX-7's etc on Sunday. What a sound.

BTW, Pip is doing the rebuild on my 5 speed as discussed in another thread.

Here's the times for Group A & C qualifying. The 635 left all V8's for dead.

You can see that the little M3 qualified faster but as per the below, the better driver in the 635 took race 1.

Interesting ! Lets not forget too that back in the day the 635s were hobbled with weight penalties.

The M3 ran at around 950kg while the 635 was at 1285kg.

Still the halo car would be a 1000kg 635, or an M3 with the 420hp M88/1 in it.

Was a great day. Picked up a couple of period books that Jim was kind enough to sign. I'm not seeing anyone else pics?
