Re: Mwrench steering box bolt spec and torque?
Good day all: An update, I jacked the car up and corrected the shim location to place between the insert and steering box. Bolt was retorqued to 32 ft lbs. The car was tested and the clunk is gone. I also just got back from a 2000km road trip, all was good with the steering now. Thanks for the help,...

Re: Mwrench steering box bolt spec and torque?
Thanks ! I will do one more post after I correct the stack height ( move the spacer washer to the correct location) . I also note that a torque spec of 55 newton meters is also around 32 ft lbs. maybe the instructions have incorrectly have the torque spec in foot pounds instead of newton meters? I w...

The original bracket is broken off but , the PO did not install the spacer washer under the steering box to make up the correct stack height. The spacer washer was on top! ...

Mwrench steering box bolt spec and torque?
Good day all: I have a 1988 635 which has the mwrench steering box mount installed when I purchased it. I have no installation instructions for the fix kit. I am rechecking the bolt spec and torque to be sure everything is correct. I know there are lots of these fix kits in use so hopefully someone ...

Re: Ac Charge Ports
Hi Phil: I charged the system using R12a refrigerant. I realize this is quite a controversial subject to use this, but here in Canada it is legal and readily available. As the AC system system looked in good shape and I had just gotten the car I decided to go the first summer on R12a and see how it ...

Ac Charge Ports
Good day all: I have a 1988 635CSI that is mostly all original including the AC system. The original system was R12 and I intend to check/recharge it this spring . My question: the LP charge port is clearly visible, but I cannot find a HP service port. I noticed an extra hex cap on the drier today w...

Re: Ac evaporator drain -plugged!
Thanks folks for the photo and the additional tips. I have decided to leave this problem until the winter when I have more time to deal with it as it may turn into a bigger job. I will report back when I get to it. Thanks. Karl

Ac evaporator drain -plugged!
Good day all: I finally got my ac working in my 1988 CSI , only to find a new problem. My carpets are wet on the passenger side and there is no water dripping under the car when the ac is running. My evaporator drain line must be plugged. Does anyone have a picture or a description of the routing of...

OBC - Range and MPG modes not functioning
Good day Forum: I am requesting some help with my OBC computer please. My car is a 1988 635CSI, and I repaired the OBC over the winter by installing a new backlite in the unit. I was very pleased to see it fire up and is functioning in all modes EXCEPT for the Range and the MPG and AVG MPH mode. RAN...

Re: Power Steering low pressure hoses - substitutions?
Good day All: I figured out the solution to this issue and thought I would report back to close the issue. The 4 hoses are: 1) 16mm Id *. 22mm od (line from reservoir to ps pump) 2) 12mm Id * 18 mm od ( line from steering box to reservoir) 3) 8mm Id * ? Od (line from master cyl to reservoir) 4) 6mm ...

Re: Power Steering low pressure hoses - substitutions?
Thanks for the tip. I was on the hunt for hoses today and got the same 5/8 inch SAE hose to go from the reservoir to the pump inlet. I also got a 1/4 inch fuel line and a 5/16 in line to use for the 2 small lines (to the brake bomb and master cyl). All these 3 lines look like they are going to work ...

Power Steering low pressure hoses - substitutions?
Hi all: I am in the process of replacing the 4 low pressure power steering hoses on my 635. The correct hoses are metric size which are hard to find in my area. The question: Has anyone successfully used SAE sized hoses instead without leaks? If so what sizes did you use? The 4 hoses are: 16mm Id *....

AC charge port locations?
Hi all: I am working on my new to me 1988 635 . The AC system doesn’t work , and is an unmodified original R12 system. Question: where is the high pressure side port connection? The LP connection is clearly visible , but I can’t see where to connect the high side gauge. Any help appreciated. Thanks....

Dexron Trans (and PS) fluid
Good day folks: I am a newbie... just purchased a 88 635CSI. What a cool car.... I think I am really going to enjoy it! Got an automatic (as my wife wants to drive it as well). My question: The Owner's manual calls for Dexron for the trans and the PS/Brake servo system. Can you advise exactly what t...

Re: Radio, Sunroof motor, Seat Belts...
Good day:
I am a new 635 owner ( an 88) and I live in the Halifax area. I am interested in the antenna and am also looking for a driver's side seat belt receptacle (female end with the red release button). Would you have one?
Thanks
Karl
