Sump baffles

Bit of serendipity: spares car bought for manual conversion yielded lightweight flywheel ('83 635 manual). Had to change sump after unexpectedly causing a crack in the thing, so pulled sump off spares car engine to find it's got baffles fitted, absent from cracked one! Sorry for crappy pictures take...

SUCCESS!

Wish I'd done this in the first place: re-stitching the webbing means I've got the necessary headroom.

Anyone want to buy a sports interior? Will stick it on the for sale section once I get the chance to take some pictures.

Cheers,

Rob

Peculiar knocking noise on cornering after fitting Alpinas..

...went back and forth through all likely suspension culprits and sure enough, random coincicence: one of the exhaust rubbers had worn through: the exhaust was making the noise, nothing to do with suspension! I'm getting better at expecting random stuff, I'd have been scratching my head for ages if ...

Seats: how low can you go?

Hi, I thought I should share my experience of trying to gain a bit more headroom, having read on good authority that the sports seats went the lowest. Having just wasted ?250 on a sports interior from an '85 M635 (very nice though it is, thanks Boyd), the sports seats sit HIGHER than the Recaros Yes...

Thank you so much for the replies and for the help: WD40 did the trick: will pull the bugger out and grease everything properly at the weekend (wife's away with kids, so list of "to do" jobs on car will finally get started, it's just a shame the list keeps getting longer!) Thanks again, Rob

Hope it stops raining soon: wipers have packed up!

Started parking in the "up" position last week, today went back down and stayed down! I can hear the motor straining, but nothing doing. Interesting drive home awaits if rain doesn't stop. Hoping a bit of grease will sort it out, but have that sinking feeling... Any thoughts welcome, Rob

Thanks for that: so the executive leather definitely means Buffalo, rather than any sort of "extended leather" option.

Would love to see a picture of the Buffalo interior: your description - RokuMadu - makes it sound like a lovely place to be.

What is the executive leather additional cost option?

Bless ebay: I bought a June '84 Model Price List out of interest (my car reg. Dec '84), and was surprised to note that, with leather being standard, the first owner of my car must have wanted cloth comfort seats!

Just curious as to what the ?807.00 cost for executive leather was for.

Cheers,

Rob

Assume that US cars had different mountings (all like the post '87 Highline Euro cars as per #12 in attached???) All the fives and sixes I've seen have the cylindrical mounts as per #8 in attached. Didn't replace mine, but swapped over a good inlet side one for exhaust side: must be loads more weigh...

Strangely "arty" shot of Alpinas!

Just uploaded some pics and found this shot of my wheels just before tyres being put on. It beats a bowl of fruit for subject matter any day! I had to buy two brand new centre caps (how much????), and annoyingly they are a slightly different shade, exaggerated by the light in this pic. Still love th...

Sorry, bit late on catching up here, but my '84 car has one, just about clinging on despite two of the lugs having broken off as the plastic goes hard and brittle. I won't be posting my Sikaflex/gaffer tape fix in tech articles! The guys at Fritz's Bits said they'd never seen one, assumption being t...

New boots for Alpinas! 255/40 or 265/40 on the back?

I'm finally in the last stages of refurbing my 17" Alpinas. They are from an E34, with 8 1/2" fronts (ET 12) and 9 1/2" rears (ET24). I've decided to go for Falken FK452s having read no end of reviews. The fronts are no problem: I'll go for 235/45 17s as per original E34 spec. I'm les...

Hence the need for the waxoyl, I guess. THe only aluminium/steel contact is the immediate area held with the screws. There must be wing liners from other cars which can be made to fit I suppose. Apparently Volvo ones fit the old CS. Out of interest, do you drive the Horsetan steed in the winter? I d...

Liners are aluminium with rubber strips around the edges. Quite a good fit, acutally, apart from the front bumper join.

That is absolutely amazing.

I think the side skirts and the M front apron look perfect with the Alpinas.

My parent-in-law live in Lincoln, I'll tell them to look out for the nicest-looking car they're likely to see!

Lokari splash guards

Here's one that is likely to divide opinion. I drive my sixer regularly, even in the winter. I have just fitted some Lokari inner wing liners having seen some of the posts on the E9 forums (I think I mean E9: you know, the incredibly beautiful 3.0CSi/CSL coupe which preceded the E24). My logic is th...

Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs here, but sounds like a couple of problems I've had with M535i and 635. Main relay failed on 635, symptoms being suddenly cutting out, but would restart immediately. I always carry a spare one of these, so easy fix! On M535i, would start and run, then cut o...

auto to manual swap

Aaaargh! The cool picture guide: http://www.e28planet.com/DaveKanTransGuide/index.html is no longer available, just as I'm about to pull my auto trans and engine this weekend.
