headlight switch pinout

Post by 86_6series »

I'm looking for the pinout of a headlight switch for an 86 US E24.
I want to stop the OBC display light not to dim when I turn on the lights.
I'm color blind and cannot set it when it's dimmed during the daylight.

I believe that one of the wires sends a ground or hot to the lighted display.
I think that if I could disconnect that wire going to dim mode it will solve my problem.

I've looked @ the switch diagrams in the ETM but can't figure what wire does the dimming.
I know that the lights in the hazard and rear defogger and radio will not dim if this can be done.

I'm posting on Big6coupe- E-28 & Bimmerforums as well.

Thanks for any info.

Grey-Red (signal "KL58K" by DIN) is the color of the wire coming from light switch to OBC (not only!).

It is pin#8 on the green OBC connector at the rear of the unit.

You can slide it out from the plug or cut and isolate with the shrink tube and/or electrical isolation tape.

Connector's pins are marked 1, 13, 14, 26 so you should be able to navigate the right one.
