WTB: Spare tire cover

Post by gray635 »

Guys:

I have recently purchased a "new" 83K M5, It is a very nice car. However, the fiberboard spare tire cover is not in particularly good condition.

I know this is a long shot, but if anyone has a spare tire cover in good shape, I could sure use it.

Thanks,
Mike

Mine has some damage and I plan on having one made. Deciding which material to use, lauan plywood would work, however, I would prefer a higher grade plywood. Need to visit a lumber yard soon. Then to paint.

Yep, that's close. However, the cover on the M5 does not have all the holes - just a small cut-out for access to the valve stem. Which is obviously much less involved that your part.

I may have to see if I can find a good woodworker to fab something up for me.

Hi Mike, your response jogged my memory, the photo I posted is from a 11/86 built 635. I replaced my 89 cover (center hole only) with it as it was falling.

I have two spare tire covers. One is fiberboard, as you referenced. The other is plywood and painted gray. Both in great condition and available. I tried to post pics but file size is too large. Happy to email them to you directly. -Jon
