Hello from Sweden, 635csia -88

Post by donkii »

Hi guys,
First post here and for me a great one. The transport company delivered my shark today. 635csi -88 with the grey full leather interior (leather roof was a surprise) with a M5 leather steering wheel. The color is RoyalBlaue-metallic.

As always when you buy cars you encounter some surprises and the first one appeared when starting the car, the fuel pump made some pretty high noice and I noticed that the car had some problem revving up so I'm guessing it has to be replaced. The fuel pump is located in the back right of the car?

The second surprise was that the warning light in the dashboard for "Brems- und Lenkhydraulik" was blinking, I'll need to dig in on that as well.. Other than that, what a car. What a huge coupé...

Sorry for the pictures but the car and I got surprised by some heavy rain like 20min before the pictures.

I hope to get some nice discussions with you guys and also gain some of your knowledge regarding these cars.

Thx, Daniel

Let me be the first to Welcome you....
Car looks to be in awesome shape, not a single "bubble " on the tail light bezel!! Love the color as well...
Guess you guys in Europe didnt get the aft A/C console....well, it should be 100 # lighter then mine...
All that appears to be missing is a shifter... :D , easily fixed.....

Forgot to mention, 2 fuelpumps, one in the fuel tank itself, i believe accessable from the trunk (boot) and a second one on the right side of the car, mounted right beside the fuel tank, mounted in a plastic housing, mounted on rubber shocks.... Right beside the fuel filter...

Nice pictures and a noticeable appearance.
A noisy fuel pump is about to fail pretty soon. It's located over the passenger side rear axle. If you got access from below no big deal. A good quality new one costs less than 100 €. Did it to my M635 some month ago and the collector of the pump was totally grinded off.

Thanks :)

Well, not a single bubble as far the eyes can see :)
I haven't made so big of a research but your'e probably right regarding the console :) So you mean it's an easy fix to put in a manual? Not for me anyhow....

You have a nice looking car with lots of options like cruise control, heated seats and the wonderful magnetic key alarm system.
I drove my car to Sweden to fews ago and took it from Malmo, through Stockholm, Uppsala, Umea and on to Jokkmokk.
It's a great car for cruising around Sweden. I didn't see any other E24s when I was there!

Hi and welcome to the community! :P
It's nice to see more Scandinavians here.

Looks like a nice buy, the little gremlins shouldn't be much of an hassle to repair.
With cars as old as this there will always be some sort of gremlins, that's why they call it a hobby.

I can't remember seeing that steering wheel with leather wrapped center area before?

You have your eyes with you :) However, the key to the ugly alarm system is gone so I might have to order a new one I guess.

Haha, thats a looong trip. How did you like it here? I might do a trip like that next year but thru Europe. Watch some formula 1 and Moto GP is the plan.. :D

Thanks :)
The car is in great condition, but there are some things that I might have to deal with in some years. Change some driveshafts and so on..
I replaced the fuel tank today together with the hoses, filters, fuel pump and pre-pump. I've never seen anything like that I saw today, about 3kg of rust was pored out from the tank, no wonder it didn't run.

The steering wheel is an original steering wheel from a M535 but since the car has the added leather interior with leather in the roof sealing and door sides it was decided that the steering wheel should have some added leather as well when it got restored. Looks great I think :)
