Staggered Rial rims: what tire sizes? and what center caps?

Post by val_c »

Got myself a staggered set of 16" Rial rims: 16x7 ET23 and 16x8 ET11 with 205-55-R16 and 225-50-R16 old tires that should be replaced.
The tires mounted now are useless and should be replaced. What would be the recommended size? The current setup seems a little small for the car?

Upd: trying to locate centercaps for those rims. I believe internal (clips)_ diameter is 58 mm, anyone have a lead to the sellers?

Hi, Bert, all is good. Was busy with some stuff: new job, gun club, etc. Didn't had a chance to run a 6 much though.

Hey Val,

Yes, life is busy ](*,)

Those are probably the correct tire sizes for those wheels, or were, back in the day, when those were considered "wide" :-k

You might try and step up to 225/50's up front and 245/45's out back, but with a front wheel offset of 23mm, you may have tire on strut interference [-X

Tough call :-?

Decided to stick with proven solution 205/55R16 & 225/50R16. Will post photos later in my project section.

Great choice, it is the correct size. I have these in 16x8 square and am happy with them. 225/50/16.

The problem is the offset in the front making everything look sunken in. Get some 12mm spacers on the fronts and the offsets will look more appropriate.

Same as my BBS RS211's

The centercaps that came with the wheels are garbage and cracked from the time. What centercaps should I use for those Rials? Internal diameter is about 58 mm if measured by clips, but seems like centercaps I can source either bigger or smaller.

Thanks for the idea with spacers! Definitely will get 12 mm for front.

Sure thing. Sorry I can't help with finding center caps. From what I understand, they are difficult to source.

No problem, found some that fit on... alexpress.
Yes, Chinese but made OK.

What interesting is that the same caps fit good on rear wheels, but have about 2 mm play on the fronts. Had to use some tape to eliminate the play.

Love these old Rial wheels. Had them on my E28 in 16x8 e11 and 16x9 e11 (had a pair of 16x7 e23 also but preferred the deeper dish).

Hello,

i am driving also a set of the RIAL Mesh in 8 + 9 x 16 ET 11.

The Preowner created a new set of bottlecaps - i think he was saying, that he used some from Mercedes and made the "RIAL" Letters custom.

I wish those wheels would be 17" or 18" :D
