Refinishing Original TRX/BBS wheels
Canadian delivered M6 I'm the original owner. After 170K kms (105K miles) wheels need refinishing. Local shops tell me it's very difficult because of the black band in the recessed groove, and the honeycomb pattern. Most people replaced the original wheels years ago. NOS wheels are still available from BMW but pricey. Has anybody redone their wheels or have the name of a wheel shop? Thanks
Re: Refinishing Original TRX/BBS wheels
Years ago I had mine done and the only significant issue was around ensuring that the centre caps matched. My particular caps were/are the metal variety and it was put to me that the paint was reacting badly to the porous nature of the metal. I think they redid them at least once, maybe twice, before I was happy. As far as the black line was concerned, the paint shop did a pretty good job, but I ended up carefully overpainting by hand and reckon I managed to produce a finish that was as good as OE.
It's also worth bearing in mind that when I say "years ago", in actual fact it was probably around 25 years ago, and I would have thought methods since then have substantially improved.
I wonder if powder coating my be an option?

These two threads may provide an alternative suggestion, and perhaps a little inspiration.....

Do you have metal or plastic wheel centres?
This shows my efforts at hand painting from many years ago. I accept that vinyl tape might look ok, but I made sure the paint covered the entire surface area of the groove ie bottom and sides, which is the same as OE.
