Yes gents, finished off yet another project
This is the completion of replacing the front/side reflectors in the front bumper surrounds with lights
And I should also point out that I questioned doing this mod in another thread, but you can see in the photos that there's no way to tell that I chopped holes in the surrounds to install the light assemblies
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=32259
I also uncovered quite a bit of rust, so I guess it was actually a good thing that I decided to dig into this project and at least stop the bleeding
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=32405
The lights came from an E28, and Ralph in SoCal, of course
And yes, I tinted them as well, but also used LED's instead of halogen bulbs, which appear to be significantly brighter
Needless to say, I am very pleased with the results, even used black screws
Lemme know what you guys think

Wow, what an end result! That looks very good!
Unbelievable that BMW didn't make it like this, instead of these elephant ears indicators

Re: Where there was once reflectors, now there's lights
Thanks guys, not sure just how "genius" it was, however
Paul, the later 88/89 model years did address what you duly noted, why BMW didn't so this in the first place
To meet US DOT standards, they first went with the "elephant ear" front blinker lenses and placed a small bulb in the lower corners to act as front/side markers
The 88/89 version have somewhat slimmer lenses and lighting in the bumper surrounds
Since I have Euro lenses, which don't have that little bulbs in the lower corners, I had this part of the wiring harnesses available, so power and control of my upgrade was actually rather easy
I just made cable assemblies to reach the new lights, plug and play, again no harnesses were cut, in typical "Green Shark" fashion
Thanks again for the kind words

Well done Bobbo. I’m typically not into the tinted lenses but in that application it actually works well
For anyone else thinking of this modification, I do have a few more lights available. PM me and provide a small site donation and I’ll send 2 with pigtails

I just found this thread. Getting ready to do same mod; I may have some mylar still laying around to silver it.
