My ‘85 M635 Gunther
Rick and Carolyn drove the car on special occasions. It was their fun car and they only put on around 20,000 miles in the 25 years they owned it. It made a couple of trips to Sharkfest but generally cruised around their local Florida community. Rick passed away unexpectedly and I was fortunate to acquire it from Carolyn.
I bought the car sight unseen and was pleased when it rolled off the truck last fall. The binder of receipts from both prior owners was fun to look through and informative. With just 87,000 miles I think the car is completely original with the exception of the work I’ve done over the last year. Thankfully there is no rust or history of accidents. Because it didn’t get driven much over the last 5 years, I’ve spent the last year getting the car back up to where it should be. Suspension, brakes, electrical, gaskets, hoses,…You guys get the picture. There is a bit more work to do on the electrical and I’d like to get some advice on lowering springs, bet here he is:

Welcome here!
What a great Euro E24!
I like the black/black version.
Do you have a full history of the car?

Re: My ‘85 M635 Gunther
Thank you. I think I’ve got a full history. I’ve got the import paperwork and maintenance receipts from the 80s onward. I definitely want to keep the car as original as possible. The only real upgrade that’s been done is the new E31 front calipers and disks that I did along with the UUC shifter that replaced the awful no name short shifter that was in the car when I got it.
I’d like to lower it a bit. I haven’t found the specific springs I need. Having gone through the repairs over the last year, it seems like the M635 has some unique parts. I’d welcome any advice on how to lower it an inch or so. Those gaps bug me
Thanks
Dave

Google Ground Control a company in California and read what they have. I did my suspension and after a bunch of spring experiments have what I initially wanted.
If you end up goin that way, PM me and I'll tell you what springs I ended up with. NOT what they suggested.

Re: My ‘85 M635 Gunther
I ended up going with H&R lowering springs which lowered about an inch. Very pleased with the results and ride. A bit firmer but still very comfortable. Also replaced lower control arms because bushings were shot and did the sway bar bushings as well. So all suspension components are now replaced and I’d guess it rides and handles like its 1985. Took him to 100mph and he was super stable and ready for more. Such a fantastic car!

Very nice looking M635. May I ask what shocks you decided to use?

Thanks Scott. Bilstein B8. I’m very happy with the B8 and H/R combination. Solid road feel but still smooth and GTlike.

Re: My ‘85 M635 Gunther
Awesome example
I really love the Motorsport striping along the lower edges and seat inserts, as well as the shadowline trim
Only bit of a bummer I see are the DOT mandated side marker lights
Welcome and keep us posted on your fine work

Thanks GRNSHRK. Original owner had those pinstripes added in 1987 I believe. I have the receipt and I really like how they look.
