Gents, in my quest to install the old school Motorsport Roundels everywhere, I got hung up on the steering wheel horn button, and made my own.
It sorta came out all right, but I wasn't satisfied, so I bought one from Renown https://www.renownusa.com/ as their info told me that it would fit
Well, it didn't, but then it occurred to me that the Momo wheel has a mounting ring of sorts between it and the hub, and it appears that its only purpose is to mount the horn button
So I removed it, and sure enough, the new horn button fits without the mounting ring in place
My question is, do I really need this mounting ring at all, or can I just remove it and toss in a box of parts
Here's a few pix, and while I haven't taken the green shark out for a drive yet to see if everything is OK, the wheel feels fine and no different than without that mounting ring
Thoughts
Momo steering wheel mounting ring really required?

It looks very nice there Bobbo. I'm no expert on Momo's or any other aftermarket wheels as I don't have any. I suppose there could possibly be a worry that the removed ring is there for strength? But I don't think thats the case. I think its a smart fix .

Re: Momo steering wheel mounting ring really required?
Thanks Dave, I have to admit that it looks much better than the one I made
But the more I look at the setup and think about it, it appears that the only purpose for the plate in between the wheel and hub is to mount the horn button
Me thinks that it wouldn't add anything for strength, in fact I think the wheel is now more secure than with it in place
Anyhoo, got more rain today, so I won't be testing it out today

That ring is sometimes used for the ground contact for the horn button, as the hub itself doesn't have a tab and some horn buttons only have the positive contact on them.
Other than that, it should serve no mechanical purpose. Drive on
