[Australia] Odometer gear replacements

Post by TimU »

For any Australians looking for BMW E24 Odometer gears, they're available locally from BSS, shipped fast from Sydney.

Email them for an option to buy the kit + an extra gear if you're not sure of the tooth count in your cluster.

Placed my order today for both 17 & 19 toothed gearsets.

As a follow-up, I finally had a chance to pull my instrument cluster out of the car this weekend to fix the Odometer Gears.

Lessons learnt:
1) Those damn harness wires really need to be about 5cm longer to help me get my fat fingers behind the cluster!
2) The fog-light switch can be completely removed (unscrewed) from the fascia to simplify its removal & reinstallation, instead of pulling individual spade connectors.
3) A RHD steering shaft does not seem to drop-down out of the way, like described on the LHD instructions.
4) My car needs a 13-tooth gear, not the 17 or 19-tooth gears that I pre-ordered. #-o

On the plus side:
* My SI board and batteries seem to have been replaced by a PO at some point in the past. \:D/
The batteries are 3V CR14250 Lithium, and the white cluster housing has a '93 year stamp on it.
