Fixed my saggy butt - rear spring replacement

Post by GRNSHRK »

Yes, it's true, I've had these springs from Bert for years

While doing some other work in the rear recently, I noticed rubber bits sitting on the spring perches, and thought that the pads were disintegrating :-?

Turns out it was just the closed cell foam bump stops that apparently aren't even needed with Bilstein Sports, at least according to Klaus, whom I trust very much :-"

Those were indeed trashed, which is where they are now [-X

Here's a couple of shots, before and after ride height, struts assembled, and a comparison between the new B&G spring height versus the ST's that have been on the 6er for quite some time \:D/

Nice one.
Are the new springs physically taller than the old ones?
It's hard to tell from the photo.

Would you mind sharing a link or part number for what you purchased please?

Cheers

Hey Tim,

I actually purchased these from another board member who was picking up E12 chassis parts as they become increasingly harder to come by :-({|=

Here's a link to their website, they are in Sweden :-"

http://b-gsuspension.com/

I have attached another photo of the ST spring that's been on the 6er for years, next to a new B&G spring, along with a photo measuring the older ST spring :-k

Again, please keep in mind that they may have been the same height when new

Also please keep in mind that these are for E12 chassis, as I think you have a later E28 chassis version 6er [-o<

HTH

My car sits perfect with a set of those, Bobbo. I am using Koni oil filled strut inserts and Koni gas filled shocks on the rear. The car rides firm, smooth and is not a bone shaker. I have a set of Bil sport strut inserts that I was going to use, but went with the Konis. I pulled the fronts out of a wreck and spent some serious $$$ getting them custom re built and am glad I ended up going that way. If anyone needs, I have the Bil E12 sport fronts available. They came out of an E12 that was totaled and have less then 8K on them

Hey Bert, it was a great feeling to finally get at least the rear pair of these springs in #-o

I only took a short drive, as my power steering is whining and that's my next issue to address :-({|=

And you should easily be able to sell those Bilsteins here or elsewhere \:D/

Hmm :-k
