Power steering hydraulics refresh - Plus :)

Post by GRNSHRK »

When does it ever end :-({|=

While test driving after exchanging the rear springs, I noticed that the power steering was whining louder than "normal", admittedly this has been leaking for quite some time, and such a dirty mess that I really didn't want to deal with it

In fact, I am embarrassed to say that the power steering hydraulics have never been serviced in 42 years, 32 of which were under my care

So everything came out, including the pump, which itself is actually in good shape :-"

The low pressure hoses were what's been leaking, as all of the clamps were a bit on the loose side

Those got replaced, but the high pressure hose is also actually in very good condition and is being reused, that plus the fact that replacements are over half a grand, assuming you can find one :-?

The filter was also binned, but also NLA are the reservoir cover gaskets ](*,)

The first set of pix show the "before" condition and how things cleaned up before painting :-&

Oh, yes, the frame rail and battery tray and surrounding area also got repainted, the latter matching, this time \:D/

The second set of photos all of the masking of harnesses, repaint, hose installation and final assembly =D>

Very nice work Bobbo. Well worth the effort to clean and repaint that area.Too bad about the NLA filter and gasket. That seems like two very silly items to be NLA. Hopefully someone else decides to make them
