Shout out from Hong Kong

Post by [email protected] »

Hello fellow enthusiasts!

New owner of 1985 #019/524 RHD MT M6 here and very thrilled to be part of this amazing community here.

A bit background on my acquisition - it took me 3 long years to persuade my good friend who turned 72 this year to allow me to take care of his long kept love which he purchased in 1997 (yes he had it for 24 years). Since he has a stable full of cars, he hardly had time for the M6 and would only drive it for about 2 months every year when the weather is cooler and for the rest of the year to make sure it runs well and properly maintained.

So now the pressure is on me to show love and care for this beauty. I have decided to overhaul the entire car inside out and expect the entire project to take around 18 months to complete. The plan is to go for a new paint job and change all aged rubber pieces with new parts including all door, window, trunk....and any other seals that is worn either hardened or cannot be refitted after the paint job. I am very fortunate to have found a paint shop with the same level of excitement as I do for this car and they jumped right in to take on the project. I have already started to acquire parts well in advance although the actual commissioning of the paint job won't start until Feb so that a few minor mechanical issues (brakes, overly stiff clutch pedal...etc) can be addressed first and for the BBS RS set to be custom fitted with new barrels and lips.

With all that work which is beyond my knowledge, I'd definitely need the wider community's expertise just so I will be able to complete this project hopefully by end of 2022; and promise will share updates as I progress through different phases of the project.

Are you sure it is #19? According to my records #19 is Saturn Blue (#176) with Pacific Blue leather (#0204). Eng. #42733602.

It should also have headlight washers/wipers which don't appear to be fitted!

Has it got an Anti-Theft lock to the rear of the driver's door?

Nice car to have and good luck with finding all the parts required.

BTW It's an M635.
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

Thank you all - truly appreciate it!

@ron - you are absolutely correct as by profession I'm into DD and took a few good months to get down to all of what you shared. I wasn't sure initially and the deeper I dug into the more excited I got.

My friend (prev owner) resprayed the car in 1997 the month after he got it and I confirmed it is legit because the engine bay is still in Saturn Blue - not ideal but least it was a positive match with the VIN. Headlight wipers got damaged once when he drove up to Beijing for a charity event and he didn't bother to replace the same since its of no use in HK other than being a deco piece.

Re the anti-lock thing even the previous owner didn't know when I asked him a while back but it looked like an anti-theft thing so I didn't bother researching into it any further - thanks for your sharing now I know what it is!!

Last but not least there's been mentioning on one of the threads that even if VIN check states S38 engine, depending on the batch of the car's production, you may still find a hidden jewel under the bonnet. Believe it or not, I paid full amount collected the car and intentionally did not bother to check it until I reached home. When I lifted the bonnet and looked at the engine, I screamed JACKPOT. Still got a lot to learn about the different engines they had in these cars, but its still unbelievable that I got my hands on this one.

Thanks again ^_*
