instrument cluster clear cover

Post by rjsteacher »

I am looking for an instrument cluster clear plastic cover for my 1988 635csi. Mine is cracked. Also, does anyone know if any other model bmw uses the same size clear plastic cover?

Unfortunately, it's the only car that uses it. and unfortunately it's almost impossible to remove just the clear part.

Best bet is to buy a cluster from a dismantler.

Yup, I am having mine restored and I had to buy a donor cluster to get the clear glass as mine was cracked also. You can find some on ebay but just make sure you don't buy one from an early 6 as the trip odometer reset is in the center of the cluster.

And make sure you do this, while it's apart [-o<

I ended up slightly cracking mine while trying to get it apart to clean that weird mold looking stuff that they all seem to get.

I have a spare instrument cluster housing with a good clear cover. If you are still looking, send me private message and I can send you a photo. It would also seem that the E23 and E28 share the same instrument housing. A check on Real OEM should confirm that. I think the one I have came off an '88 M6.

They share the gauges but not the housing.

Are you still looking for one? I probably have one. I'll see what I have if you haven't found one yet.

I know this thread is a few months old but dmac156 if you still have that housing I would be interested if the OP doesn’t need/want it. I am having the cluster restored on my 88 M6 and am in need of a housing with good glass.
Thanks,
Chuck

I have several of these. I've had 18 635csis and have been lugging around boxes and boxes of parts for years now and I am liquidating all.

I am still looking for an instrument cluster cover for my 88 635csi. Now also looking for a speedometer as I put in new gears and the odometer is still not working. Let me know if you can help out and what the cost plus shipping to Florida will be. Also interested in any pictures you have of spare parts as I am always looking for something! Thanks!

I might have what you need. See attached. I'd like to get $50 for the cluster + shipping.

The ODO on this cluster is also not working so I could just pop the plastic off and send you that to save on shipping.
