Heater on all the time

Post by Ericjump »

I just got my 1989 635 back on the road, it seems like the heater is on all the time, the fan switch (and fan) work great.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone who replies can send me a email ([email protected]) that would be helpful also.
Thanks for everyone help.

Heater valve (in engine compartment, on firewall) isn’t closing.

OK, thanks for the response, is this (Picture) the valve?
Is there a way to manually close it?
What is the fix for it not closing?
Thanks for your help

When mine failed, I temporarily connected the incoming hose to valve with
an elbow nipple of the outgoing hose to the evaporator.

Added 4 days later after thinking what I posted.
I did this in the winter, when I needed some heat.

So, If you want to temporarily stop the heat --- cap the hose to the valve.

This is how old geezers function. 4 days late and 10 dollars short.

Are you referring to heat coming through the firewall or is it coming out of your vents? If it's the firewall, the rubber grommet must have popped out. During the evening, shine a light onto the firewall in the engine compartment (drivers side). Look inside under the drivers side and if you see light coming through a hole, that's the missing grommet. Good luck
