E24 series 1 extremely stiff suspension

Post by msoft »

I have now driven my 635 from 79 first couple of kilometers and the front suspension feels extremely stiff. Very bumpy. I can hardly swing/rock the car by hand. Rear suspension is smooth. The height looks normal and the springs look original. Worn shock absorbers normally get loose or, could it be that they got stiff?

I would try driving it for a while to see if it loosens up.

I ordered Meyle shock absorbers and upper strut mounts based on my VIN. Big disappointment when none of them fit. The struts are a bit to high and the strut mount has slightly different distance between the bolts. Apparently I need exactly part number 31331101663 which costs $360 instead of the Meyle ones for $50. Anyone found a cheap equivalent to 31331101663 for a series 1?

This is a bit old, still applies but I'm not sure of availability. Good luck

Parts you bought are likely Series 2 (e28 chassis) application.

Giving credit where it's due. I saved it from Dave who is Zinnocoupe here and he plucked it from First Fives website. Sorry but I'm not familiar with Eric but he deserves kudos as well
