Phone mouns on dash?

Post by Nick_from_Brooklyn »

My dash is in beautiful condition and afaik is original. I have one of those combo sticky (adjustable adhesive) suction cup phone mounts, is it crazy to use that directly on dash? There is no sign of dryness or potential cracking it will be kept out of direct sun and I'm in NY so moist climate.

I'm amazed that works - I would have thought the grain of the dash top material would not work with a suction cup.

Re: Phone mouns on dash? Center console for automatic?

Post by Nick_from_Brooklyn »

Its a suction cup plus adhesive that can be removed and reused. I'm trying it from the window now but blocks visibility. Thought with this car I could go back to pre phone days but too reliant on all that traffic info.

Is there an aftermarket center console arm rest for the automatic? I've seen replacements OEM consoles with the holes for windows switches on the part that surrounds the E brake, but on an automatic those are next to the gear selector the holes would just be empty.

I wouldn’t use that on your beautiful 35 year old dash.
Just not worth the risk imo. These are fairly thin dashes and fragile these days. From a physics standpoint that looks like a fair amount of stress being put there.

I got it on the window now, the phone i heavy and with the arm extended just adds more pull on the cup. Can't believe we're so dependent on these Fn things. Thought I would just not use it when driving this particular car but within 30 mins was using it to find a spot for lunch.
