M 6 power seat

Post by tmoretta »

The driver's side power seat in my '88 U.S. M6 is malfunctioning. The seat back recline feature does not operate properly. I have removed the seat and begun dismantling. Problem is that I do not know which motor or gears do what. The gear set marked BMW #062378 has a broken case but the gear still moves. Which motor operates the seat back? I see a Siemens Brose #681 62296-6 motor. Is this it? Where are these components available?

Honestly, the easiest way to find out is to apply a 12v power source to each motor and see which one moves what.

Reversing the power polarity will reverse the motor direction.

Good idea - I will try that. Also, there must be a schematic/pic. somewhere of the devices beneath the driver's seat.

Yesterday I tested the seat motors. All operative. I found the right side gear case damaged but still operative. When the seat base is fully down, the gear case contacts the seat rail causing damage. I will grind the rail to ensure no further damage.
