Did you test the seat button to confirm a signal is being sent to the module?

Yes, it is with a BMW specialist service center. They only service BMW's and have been very accommodating. Bimmer Performance Center, Raleigh, NC.
The motors and switches have been checked. I bought extra seat motors, so that we don't have a problem if they fail in the future.
It appears the malfunction is only in the driver's seat control module......and it is stuck in the down position. It will go down in the rear, but not up. The passenger's eat works perfectly. One odd thing.....As the module has begun to fail the driver's seat will not respond correctly to the buttons. It will not go in same direction as the passenger seat when the corresponding buttons are pushed.
My tech thinks we need a new module.
Any thoughts/recommendations?

In my experience (in the UK) it's pretty easy, and not too expensive, to pick up a used control module.

I presume this is what you're after?

I had my driver's side memory power seat module repaired by G7 Computers of Canandaigua N.Y.

Ok, understood.

Even though not intended for a car with memory function, I wonder if this might actually allow the seat to function fully using manual controls?

I don't know but it possibly could work. May have to change the connectors.
