New Windshield US 1980 BMW 633 CSi
Hello,
I recently purchased a 1980 BMW 633 CSi. Car is spectacular, very low mileage, but (long story) I broke the windshield beyond repair by raising the car up too high in my garage's 4-post lift into... wait for it... my garage door opener. Yes, very embarrassing. And a shame. I feel horrible.
But I want to replace the windshield and make the car right again.
I don't really know what to do at this point. Can the forum make any recommendations? Are there any NOS or aftermarket windshields available for these cars? Anything used? Would be grateful for any guidance.
Thank you,
Mike

I did mine with after market glass and a new seal from BMW. Myself and a friend put it in ourselves. I am totally happy with it. I simply called a glass company that does auto glass and was able to get one through them

Ditto, try Safelite or one of those companies
You might also check with Kronus on the board, as I bought a "slightly" used one from him a while back, and I'm almost certain that it's aftermarket
And let's see some pix of that new acquisition

I do have another one, but it's in a car, and it's in CA. I don't know that it'll ship too well

Safelite in my area could have installed theirs but I went to BMW to get OEM,
that was 2 years ago.

Thank you for these responses... Very interesting. I'll give BMW a call to see what they can do. For some reason, I wasn't optimistic they would even know anything about this vintage of a car or be able to source parts. But we can try.
But mainly it sounds like my initial fears aren't necessary, around simply not being able to find glass at all. It sounds like perhaps it's not that difficult of a windshield to fabricate or fit.
Here are two photos of the actual car. It's basically identical to the car I drove in high school in the late 1995 - 1997 -- I still remember my Dad pulling up in the driveway in it (1980). I worked very hard to source a new set of the exact wheels I had on the car then. Found the rims in Latvia and then found some NOS wheel caps, these wheels are from the early 1980s. For me, they complete the car as I remember it, but not everyone's taste of course.
Only 25,000 miles -- can you believe that. Single owner family heirloom sort of a deal. Glad I found it and could keep caring for it, though obviously I'm not off to a great start. But at least she'll be enjoyed by someone for whom this car is very special.
I'm new at this, so let me know if it's just sensible to call BMW at this point, or work with an independent mechanic; or a body shop directly; or Safelite directly. I suppose I'll just give them all a call to get the lay of the land. Is there a part number for the windshield glass, and how about the seal?

In NY our insurance covers all glass with no deductions, that's why I go OEM glass.

Follow-up: Safelight replaced the windshield with a custom gasket from BMW. Insurance paid 100% (approx $600-$800). Glass looks great and I'm really happy. Thank you for the encouragement and guidance.
